Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Chamoix in April

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Hi Folks,
I am new to this site and wondering if anyone has useful tips/information for skiing at Chamonix in April.
I normally ski earlier in the season but due to work commitment wont be able to go until 2nd week in April.
(1) Will I still need really warm ski jacket or will it be warming up enough to wear a soft shell
(2) Is it easy to travel between the different areas & how long to travel between the areas by bus/train
(3) Best Ski area
(3) Any info about the resort would be greatly appreciated

Thanks in advance Alex Very Happy snowHead too wink

What sort of skiing? Chamonix might not be best area to choose in mid April if you are mostly a piste skier.

alexelluk, quick answer... Who knows? I've skied fresh powder in full winter in April.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Longer answer where are you staying? Typically best skiing will be up Grands Montets. Buses fairly frequent and not busiest time of year. Cham TOurist Office has timetables online.

Several Chamonix ski areas will close mid-April even if the snow is good.

you'll be right opposite the midi then which will be good, otherwise i think its probably just GM open by the second week (need to check though)

hotel looks nice btw.... it was only built last year.

i'd expect it to be warm. i've been out in just t-shirts and hoody for the last couple of weeks now, i'd expect mid april to be the same.

eddiethebus, i skied 75cm powder on Flegere not too many years ago...(2007?) but it probably will be soft shell or fleece weather Cool

Heliopic looks interesting. If you're hiring kit, alexelluk, you are just above the excellent gentlemen or ladies emporium of Concept Pro. They might even have some beer left in the pipes. If you're not hiring, they also have a very cool tuning machine.

1 - I've been able to ski in t-shirt or a merino wool layer for the past 2 weeks it's been that warm! Won't need a warm jacket!
2 - Easy to travel, just can be tiresome after a while (although I've been out here for a couple of months). GM will be the place you'll want (maybe only place) you can go which is 20mins by bus from Chamonix Sud

Very likely not but weather can change dramatically - it would be daft to go on a ski holiday without a choice of different layers. And at that time of year you will be up on the Grand Montets and might encounter a fair bit of wind chill.

srogers13, there is a small weather adjustment forecast... We've often seen snow in the garden in Cham in June and July. Can't guarantee a soft shell will be adequate.

It might also rain snowHead

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Here's hoping we may get a bit more snow and hopefully most of the ski areas will still be open and if not will just have to make the best of what is available wink

Okay I didn't mean no jacket pam w, I just meant he asked whether he needed a really warm one. I assume he'll be taking other layers like a fleece so a soft shell would be fine along with that Smile
