Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Grrrr....bindings mounted off-centre....should I panic?

 Poster: A snowHead

...just before Christmas had a few pairs of skis mounted up for the family in UK, dashed into shop and paid, threw skis in rear of car and headed for the ferry. Put all the skis in the boiler room in CH and have only just got out a pair of Volkl Pearls (155, mid waist) and noticed that the bindings have been mounted about 1cm to the left of the centre line. Just to be clear, they are fine fore and aft, but offcentre to the side - to the left on both skis.

Anybody had experience of this? Is this is a big issue? Should I simply give them to my partner to ski on and see how it goes or should I rush to the shop in CH and get them remounted?

All help very welcome.....

1cm = 10mm

Are you sure it's that much? If so then that would fall into the category of bleedin' obvious to anyone.

If it's 1mm then I doubt you'll notice.

altis, ....regret it is - should've noticed it the minute I picked them up but had two armfuls of skis....

The feet on one side of the jig will have been set for a narrow width ski whilst the feet on the other side of the jig were set for a wide ski. It's a basic mounting error as that's one of the things that should be checked before drilling & it's certainly grounds for getting replacement skis when your back in the UK. Definitely remount before skiing 'em.

I would email the shop with a phot and some proof that they did the mounting and see what they said. I'm sure you'll notice the 1cm discrepancy so I'd go for a remount. Fortunately, 1cm away should leave enough room.

spyderjon, altis, both....many thanks...thought that was the case...I'll get them remounted in CH since we'll need them soon (possible for grass skiing if it carries on like this) and I will put it down to experience rather than engage in a long 'oh yes you did' 'oh no we didn't' kind of argument, back here in the UK. Once again, many thanks.

I had a similar issue a few years back with some mail order B2s - shop replaced them, no questions asked; so agree with spyderjon, .

As altis, said, should be obvious to the shop if it is 1cm from center line as it is unlikely the brakes would have released cleanly. Or do you mean the measurement to the ski edge is 1cm different, if so you only need to move it .5cm and then the holes will be to close.

gsb, the latter - so if I get them moved diagonally (they are mounted on 'trad' rather than 'centre' at the moment, so there's a little fudging room) and the new holes aren't 1cm near the old holes and the old old holes then it should be OK...many thanks for the sound advice, All....
