Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
I'd be grateful for a bit of guidance in adjusting the bindings on my first set of skis. I have a pair of K2 'Juvy' Twin Tips which have Marker 7.0 bindings. I've worked out my DIN setting as 5.5, but I have a few questions:
1. Should the toe and heel DIN be the same?
2. If so, is there an obvious reason as to why my skis are releasing? Should the heel be higher?
3. When setting for my boot length, my boot seems tightly secured but there seems to be a small gap at the heel clip. Should this be the case?
If it helps/matters, I weigh 59kg, can get down a Black, and have started doing some small jumps.
Thanks.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

1. Yes
2. Incorrect forward pressure adjustment (see: http://theskimonster.com/blog/posts/how-to-adjust-your-marker-ski-bindings/ )
3. See 2.
If your binding is correctly mounted/adjusted & your boots aren't worn then unwanted releases are usually down to either:
- wrong skier type used in the din calculation
- poor technique, ie heavy landings as opposed to smoooooth
Remember that increasing your din settings leaves you more vunerable if in a slow speed (often rearward/twisting) fall.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Thanks spyderjon.
I spotted that article while trawling Google for help. My boots are new too.
I think I set them to the wrong boot length, maybe a little too short, would that cause them to release? The strange thing is they popped twice on flattish ground next to the lift having got me down the piste.

You need to Login to know who's really who.

Also this is a junior ski, how tall are you, what length are they? maximum is 149cm. They may be overflexing due to the pressure being applied and thus causing pre-release.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'm 5'3" (160cm). The skis reach the tip of my nose.
Would they be overflexing on flat ground?

You'll need to Register first of course.

More than likely an incorrect binding setting, combined with the fact that as they are a true twintip, a ski that is too short for you for your height and weight.

Sounds like I've been badly advised on the ski. I wanted a Twin Tip to be able to learn some park tricks, was told that I needed a slightly shorter ski. Was also told they'd be fine for my weight.
All my hire skis, not TTs, have been around the 145cm mark.
