Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Olizanne Ski Guide Author Manu Cabau killed by avalanche

Poster: A snowHead
I'll just mention this as many snowheads have bought the Olizanne (white book) ski touring guides covering the Savoie, Isere, Hautes-Alpes and Alpes du Sud. Their author Emmanuel "Manu" Cabau was killed last Thursday in an avalanche in Italy. He was ski touring alone. Married since 1991 and father to an 8 year old his wife paid tribute to him and to the humanity and professionalism of the Italian rescue services.

Quote:
"Manu had lived 3 or 4 lives in one, always climbing mountains, it was his passion, mine too but I'd stopped ski touring when our son was born. It is his eighth birthday this week. In 23 years of marriage we'd done a lot of "vertical" together. He shared his passion and I experience incredible things with him. He had a wide knowledge of the mountains, a sensible approach to weather, a passion for maps, a sound knowledge of the snow-pack forged over nearly 25 years on the ground. But despite of all that he was caught out...

In his first ski touring guide Manu quoted Sir Arnold Lunn(1888-1974), an important pioneer of ski touring "It is a real shame to hike to a summit that you could reach on skis"

Italian high mountain guide Simona Hosquet was killed on the same day as Emmanuel in a separate incident 1km away.

Maybe it's me but I find it surprising that such experienced skiers are getting caught after all the discussions about this years snowpack. Am I being harsh? I know anyone can get caught out. There but for the grace of god and all that....
