Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Route from Zurich to Bormio Italy

I am a coach driver. I drive a 12mtr coach, I am driving from Calais to Bormio Italy on 14th Feb 2014. What is the best route to take from Zurich in view of the size of the bus and roads to Bormio.

Head for Italy via the S.Gottard tunnel (A2/E35) as far as Como, then east to Lecco to pick up the S36/S38 past Sondrio to Bormio. Going via anywhere further east involves rail tunnels or serious passes which I suggest you'd want to avoid.

Do you have to go via Zurich?? If you are coming from Calais, you can go direct from Basle to Lucern and hence to the Gottard.

I'm also driving to Bormio on Friday - but only from Milan as flying into there.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

What's the tunnel like in winter? Only time I've used it, in summer a few years ago, I lost the best part of half a day each way queuing.

Claude B, Yes the S.Gottard tunnel does suffer from traffic jams - but there are very few major routes through that part of the Alps. If coming from Calais and no requirement to go via Zurich, the route via Mont Blanc tunnel and then across northern Italy could be better.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

RobW, Yes I went from Basel down, heading to Florence. Can't remember why I went that way, it seemed sensible at the time.
