I am thinking of replacing my low light goggles (Oakley Hi Yellow) as I cracked them several years ago. The crack was from a wipe out and is in the centre of the goggle, so I cannot see it when I wear them but, well, I also just fancy some new kit. Plus, I always wished I had bought a second pair of goggles, rather than replacement lenses.
I am looking at Oakley's HI Amber polarised lens in Crowbar frames.
I would be using them for low light conditions and am hoping the polarisation can help define some slope contour in flat light conditions.
Polarised lenses have been around for a few years now so I wondered what the user feed back is, especially in low conditions. In those conditions, do they justify the price premium?

eddiethebus, Did you find them better in low/flat light conditions or just at better stopping glare in bright sunlight?

actually i've got a bit confuzzled! my smith goggles had the lenses that changed colour with the light. I've got some polarised dragons at the moment though and in all honesty I dont notice any difference! they look good though!

bar shaker, I've got Oakley A Frame polarised hi amber and they are great in all but really flat light, then I use a hi yellow lens. I 100% recommend the polarised, show up snow relief really well.

I've som Zeal polarized and photochromic goggles. TBH, I didn't notice any difference and hardly ever use them now. I'm more likely to my ESS ones with simple, but interchangable, smoke/yellow/clear lenses.

bar shaker, from my O level (yes, not GCSE) physics, I reckons that polarised lenses will mainly reduce glare when it's v sunny - that's why anglers use polarised glasses. I reckon the improvement in low light will not be great. Having said that, I've not tried them in low light.

dobby, you may be as old as me!! I'll just replace my HI Yellows, I think. They are pretty good, I just wondered if there was anything better. My thinking was the light, in a flat light situation. is very scattered and not from a point source (it comes from the cloud layer, not the sun) so a polarising filter may remove a lot of 90/270 degree polarised stray rays and clean up what was otherwise a flat white piste/field. It was a long shot and it seems I was wrong.

I`ve got polarised Hi Ambers, and love them, but prefer swapping to a Persimmon in lower light, or yellow lenses.

I have 3 different lenses (and 2 frames) - black iridium (polarised) for blue sky days, persimmon for overcast/dull days and HI yellow for v low light.
Seems to cover most bases!

They mainly reduce glare from relected light. I can't see any point for ski goggles to be honest.
They also screw up the iPhone display if you use one.

The Oakley hi amber yellow polarised lens is great, providing great definition of the snow surface in poor light. Bit gutted that I managed to break mine in transit.

Bought some Scott OTG light sensitive ones last week and tested them in bright sunshine and driving snow over the weekend - FABULOUS. and my glasses did not fog up once nor did the goggles.

I have Oakley Polarised ones - they are super pretty but when I get some spare pennies I will be buying some yellow lensed gogs for low vis days as I really struggle at the moment.
