This article on today's 'expat.telegraph' concerns the extraordinary survival - read luck - of a British skier, 64-year-old Trevor Reeves, who crashed at high speed in Andorra last season.
Peter Pallot reports on his crash, his concussion, brain haematoma, emergency treatment, six weeks unconscious in a Barcelona hospital, air ambulance to London ... and overall £150,000 insurance claim.
He was wearing a helmet, but - by his own description - was "a very fast and crazy skier".

P.S. as this is guy is from advertising surely he would have understood the implications of the line, "fast and crazy skier"?

He needs to be more careful in the gob department too. Admitting he was acting in a "crazy" way is an invitation for the insurer to come looking for their £150k back! (and I hope they do - that tree could have been one of us) There are clauses in all policies that talk about taking reasonable care to avoid claims.

His fast and crazy talk may have been about his time spent racing. Always a way out of liability if you look for one.

Let's not start that old helmet debate. Maybe without a helmet he'd have percieved higher risks all round, skied more safely and had no need to claim at all!

Scarpa, I'm sure the insurer won't bother trying as, yes, it would be tough and expensive to prove. All I'm saying is that it's not an accident if you are knowingly skiing in a "crazy" fashion or knowingly skiing beyond your capabilities. Is this evidence that the helmet & body armour fraternity think they can "get away with it" more than others?
