Hi All
Just signed up to Snowheads.
I appreciate my question will probably have been done to the nth degree!! so forgive me.
My question is whether to hire online or wait till i get to the resort. This will be my third ski holiday and i feel ive come on leaps and bounds each time.
I've hired once at the resorts before. Visting Ellmau Austria this year.
Also would like some opinions on ski length. Currently using 156 at the chillfactore Manchester. I'm 168 cm short  Looking to ski mainly reds and blacks this time out so would using slightly longer skis be beneficial?

I would suggest you hire online in advance - it tends to be much cheaper.
I'm heading to Soll next month, just along the valley from Ellmau, and we booked in advance with SkiSet. By using the promotion code "facebook" and getting an automatic online discount, it cost £54 for 7 days per person (the 7th day is free).
SkiSet isn't popular in this forum, but it was a good price. Just have to see what the equipment's like now...

Generally, booking on-line provides the discount (though I do wonder if prices are often hiked up in the first place).At least booking on-line might enable you to secure the skis you'd prefer to slide on. That said, after 2 weeks skiing, I would be very surprised if you had already identified the skis that best suit your skiing in all honesty.
For someone at your level of experience, I'd have thought a ski that is more forgiving (softer with more flex) and about chin height would be right. This is the "generally" perceived "wisdom". Of course, you can always change your hire skis if you think something a little more advanced is needed.
Out of curiosity, how much instruction have you managed to get in?

If you have a clear idea about specific skis that you want to hire, it is worth contacting the hire shop by email. Many hire shops only offer a limited range if you book through Skiset, presumably because they have to pay commission, and it can be hit or miss whether you like the skis they offer you.
So email them in advance telling them what you want and ask them to hire them to you for the Skiset price. It usually works, as it saves them the commission.

Hi and thanks for the advice.
Had a day lesson at the chillfactore before my first week away and then did ski school both times.
managed a few black runs on my first trip and felt pretty comfortable on them second time round,that was at Kaprun/Zell am see.

Rickster, ok. IMHO and, as suggested, go for the slightly more flexible skis and up to chin height. Will help with getting the technique right as opposed to harder/stiffer skis to ski and then perhaps just "getting down". Again, as said, you can always upgrade if you really feel you've nailed (perfected) your technique.
