Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

How accountants go skiing?

This revealing bit of news about the Chancellor's 'Pre-Budget Report' from Times Online has an explanation of how accountants go skiing, with the holiday being "bought out" by the employer.

As with most of this stuff, I haven't a clue what's being talked about.

Could we have a comment on this from A. Bean-Counter?

What has happened (I think) is that due to the short notice of the change of date of the chancellor's pre-budget statement, many accountants have been told by their employers that they need to be in the office in order to take any nesessary action should the aforementioned statement result in the need for immediate action to mitigate any tax changes. Because of this the employers are refunding the costs of cancellation of holidays which result in a taxable benefit. The Accountants are receiving a form of remuneration which is taxabable.

Thanks, Brian. From what you say, it does seems immensely sad for the accounting community.

Clearly, Gordon Brown should take up skiing (instead of kicking footballs around) and stop annoying downhill accountants.
