I haven't been snowboarding before, ive only ever been america for skiing but i dont want to go america again its too expensive so i have europe in mind.

J.Leon1, you could try a beginners snowboarding holiday with UCPA - have a look at this http://www.action-outdoors.co.uk/holiday/cart
£537 for full board, lift pass, instruction and equipment. Argentiere. You can get to Chamonix quite cheaply using easyJet and a transfer bus. I don't think you'll do it cheaper than that.
The essential thing is having the right instruction. Will you be on your own? If so a UCPA centre is ideal - plenty of people to socialise with.

kat.ryb, no, absolutely not, but I do think UCPA is terrific value and so many people seem not to have heard of it - I never had till my daughter and her BF (now husband) went there. He had done a trip before, ice climbing etc in Chamonix in the summer. I couldn't believe how little it cost them to go to Flaine at half term, in their own double room with balcony!

pam w, agreed, UCPA is terrific value if you want lessons or guiding. Guess it is even better value if you look at the peak UK school holiday weeks.

Agree with pam w and kat.ryb regarding UCPA. Don't know about their beginner courses, but as an intermediate I improved a lot travelling with them. Only problem can be the instructors' english. But that will give you some great stories. Best quote (after giving a long instruction in French): "Put ze brain in ze pocket and follow me!"

I've been on two trips with them and both times the instructors english has been amazing. The first time there were just two French guys in the gourp so the instruction was done 100% in English with a quick translation into French at the end. Last year there were just two of us English speakers and everyone else French and the instructoir still did most explaining in English with a quck French translation which was a littkle worrying when he spemnt 5 mins telling us all about the hazzards on the route in English, then just said a few sentances in French. We were like 'did everyone get that abouthe cliff, the rocks, the lake....?'
Helpful for improving my French too getting instructions in English and then in French.

J.Leon1, look at Morzine or Les Gets if you are a beginner. There are plenty of slopes to progress on to, you can go for the cheaper resort pass for most of the week (as opposed to the PDS pass)
*edit* also, I board, and found very few flats that were an issue, and the school Ive been recommended by Pamski is BASS.

i learnt in Avoriaz and found it fantastic as there is so much variaty, and a large number of blue runs to practice on without getting bored of the same run over and over you get in smaller resorts, and you can also get out and cover quite a bit of distance without having to go on any really challenging runs or annoying drag lifts, mainly chairs all the way.
But saying that i went to borovets in bulgaria a few years back, and all though i wasnt a beginer then we did have 2 beginers in our group who said it was a fantastic place to learn. And its got night time skiing too so you can board for 12 hours a day if you want.

When I went to Bulgaria not only was it very cheap but the lessons were 6 hours a day rather than 3 hours (though this may have changed). Made it a great place to learn and the instructors spoke perfect English. We were in Pamporvo which I remember as being a bit flat in places so maybe not as good as Borovets for boarding.

Strikes me as a good place to learn. Ski in/out resorts are especially good for beginners I would say as they'll be knacked enough with all the walking around, side-stepping, falling over, laughing etc etc.
My first time was in Mayrhofen and although the village was great for that alpine atmosphere is was a royal PITA queing 45 mons up and down for the Ahorn cable car. Lucky I was 18 really - couldn't do it now, 30 years on...

Bansko is good , well linked runs with very few flat bits, step bits, trees, and you can carry board on chair lift good prices for après ski too.

I'm not sure i'd recomend chamonix to a beginner......
