Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

A-peak Montgenevre

 Poster: A snowHead
Poster: A snowHead
Just back from a week in Montgenevre - excellent time, snow conditions great with the odd bad day!

Wanted to give a plug to A-peak - booked their 3 x 2 hours private lesson deal (Euros 220 for 2 people) for our 2 boys. They had a fantastic time - Seb, the instructor spoke excellent English - took them all over the mountain and whilst making sure their skiing improved and giving them specific things to work on he really focussed on making sure they enjoyed the mountain. They got so much out of it we booked them an extra lesson.

In short can't recommend them highly enough - no hassle to book, we emailed initially then booked over the phone - no hassle.

Dr George, Fantastic report! Thank you so much for this! I have booked them for Feb for my son. I have exchanged several emails with Seb and he has been extremely helpful. Really nice to hear confirmation of this! I have booked son into a group as he likes the company of the other kids and Seb has told me that he already has other english speaking kids in the group. I might see if I can book an extra couple of hours with him.

Interesting to hear that Seb speaks excellent English, all our email exchanges have been in french! Makes me feel better about my french Laughing

Thank you for the recommendation. We are going to Montgenevre in March and have yet to book lessons for our children. Our children will be 8 and 5 when we go do you think A-Peak are better than ESF in both age groups. The 5 yr old has only done piou piou up till now. The 8 yr old has done two weeks skiing and will be on 1 star this time I think. We are staying at le hameau des airelles..how far are the A-peak lessons from this accommodation. Any further info would be much appreciated.

snowymum, I have heard very good reports of the ESF in Montgenevre but if I can I always choose an independant school over the ESF based on some bad personal experiences with the ESF. So my son is now into the ESI system and I will probably stick with this for him as far as I can. The main difference with the ESI schools like A Peak is that they generally have smaller classes than the ESF, max 6 for the little ones (4-6) and max 8 for the older ones. Don't know where the meeting point is, Hameau des Airelles looks lovely! Very envious, we are staying in some slightly dodgy chalet, big group of friends so should be fun but the accomm looks a bit basic Sad

I guess you have a spectrum of good/bad instructors in all systems and things may differ by resort but in defence of the ESF, I've been impressed with them when we've used them for the kids in Le Grand Bornand. Our three (6yo triplets) and our 5yo neighbour have all just passed their 1er Etoile but more importantly came back every day having had fun.

p.s. I looked in this thread originally 'cos we were in Claviere last year and enjoyed Montgenevre - here's a video of the kids (all 5yo at the time) on the way back into Claviere:

The TO we went with was booking through ESF but we booked A-Peak because what they offered fitted our needs better - didn't hear any reports good or bad re ESF when we were there- we have used them in the past and had different experiences in different resorts. Having said that, seeing the A-Peak and ESF groups on the mountain the A-Peak groups did seem to be generally smaller - some of the ESF groups seemed to be about 12 (but obviously New Year was a peak week)

Just wanted to give you feedback on what a good experience we had because it can sometimes feel a bit hit and miss trying to choose a ski school without recommendation.

Both the A-peak and ESF have offices in the building right on the Front de Neige and meet there for the lessons.

Just back from an all-day off-piste lesson with Seb of A-Peak Montgenèvre today - on the recommendation and in the company of a resident.

I can't recommend Seb highly enough. Introduced to skis twice as fat as I'm used to (Nordica Radicts) and had a lot of fun and just the right amount of feedback from Seb all over Montgenèvre and Claviere. A really nice guy and excellent teacher.

Hi - I have just come across your post regarding Hameau des Airelles in Montgenevre. I am looking at booking this accommodation for New Year and wondered if you could tell me what it was like please? And also where the Apeak SKi School meeting point is in relation to the Apartments. Would you recommend the accommodation and APeak SKi School? I'd really appreciate it if you could let me know. Many Thanks

SkiMumof2 - Apeak are excellent however I'd advise booking now if you want morning lessons in a school holiday week next season. The second time we went to Montgenevre (school hols) we could not book with Apeak as they had a Belgian school booking and no places left. The second time we used ESF who were very good for one child but not so good with the other (he was unlucky with his instructor). There is an ESF meeting point next to Le Hameau now. However I think the meeting point for Apeak is still in the village centre - you'd need to check if the Tremplin lift opens early enough for you to ski down a run, up a lift and down to the meeting point. If not there is a regular minibus - don't let that put you off though as it is only a 5 minute ride.

I have given a bit of info on Le Hameau des Airelles on your other thread (les arcs or montgenevre).

I would definitely recommend Apeak, Le Hameau des Airelles and Montgenevre in general. I will send you a PM with a bit more info.
