Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Speed Dating 5 Skis From Smaller Companies - Killington Test Fest 2014

We helped bolster the roster of ski companies attending the Killington Test Fest in mid December in Vermont by encouraging several smaller, less-mainstream ski builders with Reps in the area to pack their trucks and demo skis and get themselves into the lineup for the two-day demo event.

We decided to make a bunch of runs on 5 models of skis at Killington's Test Fest 2014, rather than make a couple runs on many more different skis so we could get a decent feel for them. We generally avoid "reviews" based on a single day or a handful of runs, since it rarely tells skiers what it's like to truly live with a ski day-in and day -out in real-life, but we thought people should hear about a few skis we "Speed Dated" on a sub-zero weekend in Vermont.

Some folks have been curious about Worth's new Magic, and RAMP's reboot of production using their own factory in Utah to make bamboo-core skis instead of outsourcing to Asia. We were also curious about DPS's new hard-snow carver built with Pure3 construction....so off we went....

The following skis were taken for a few rides:

• RAMP Peacepipe 179cm (146-112-134 r=17.5m)
• RAMP Groundhog 179cm (136-100-121 r=19.4m)
• Worth Magic 185cm (135-109-120mm. r=26m) with carbon power-core
• DPS Cassiar SL 160cm (127-78-113 r=11.5m)
• DPS Cassiar 85 178cm (122-85-109 r=15-18m)
