blockhead, The Telegraph have gone on a bit of a hysterical knee-jerk offensive of late - yesterday it was "EVERYONE SHOULD WEAR A HELMET" and today this. For sure it's been a morbid start but it is only Jan 7 and I'd say far too early to be writing off the whole season.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

The headline is bit like saying today the A38 was icy and dangerous so I'm not going to drive on it for the next four months.
It's a pretty reasonable article, although I agree with Bode Swiller that it's a bit early to give up. A nice huge dump of snow causing everything to run would be ideal.
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

meh, that's the big worry a huge dump of snow will not make everything right.
You should all read (if you have not) the thread "Most dangerous conditions in a decade thread" in Off Piste.
I'm on a week long Avalanche course in La Grave and this vid below shows why there will be serious cause for concern for the season
That said what we are learning on the course (hopefully) is where and what to ski to limit the threat.

Weathercam, hence why I also specified what the huge dump should trigger. The only realistic way the facet layer is going to go right now is if the snowpack slides on it. These deeply buried facets that last all season are pretty common in continental snowpacks like you find in a lot of the US. Makes for spooky times and big slides even after they are well bridged.
