Poster: A snowHead

Did a quick trip before the Xmas holiday. Stayed in Breckenridge next to Peak 9. First day on Saturday the 13th was just sunshine and groomers, which had held up pretty well after 2 weeks of no snow. Colder temps, and precip was in the forecast for Sunday, and Monday, which ended up delivering.
Peak 9 off the Beaver Run Chair. Day after a 6 inches fell during the night.
It was cold all week. Single digits at night and slowly working its way to mid 20's during the day (Farenheit)
Up high off the T-bar on Sunday, they had easily a foot of fresh, and with wind drifts, even more.
My signature on the left ...
The snow fell all day on Sunday, and put down another 6 plus inches. So it was back up top and Horseshoe Bowl, and the T-bar.
Lots of fresh tracks to be had...
At the end of the day with tired legs, after lapping the T-bar in shin deep pow, I did a lazy run down on empty slopes.
Town of Breck down below in a winter wonderland off of Peak 8.
On Tuesday it was off to Vail, where they had reported similar snow. The forecast called for 20% chance of snow. When we loaded up at just after 9AM, it was snowing nicely at Mid-Vail.
Whiskey Jack at mid-morning. A few inches on top of the groomers, and low crowds.
Blue Sky Basin had lots of cut up pow to explore in the trees. It was so light, and blower, it was just a joy to play in.
The back bowls in the trees and lower n the shade held lots of snow from Sunday evening/Monday, and the snow falling during the day was an added bonus for the groomers. Just love that light CO powder! Crowds were basically non-existent on Tuesday, and we basically just skied right up and on to the lifts.
We stopped at the end of the day to have a drink at the Sonnenalp, and enjoyed the village, which had snow falling lightly while we browsed.
Breckenridge with a fresh blanket of snow.
All and all a great trip, with way better snow, than what we thought we would end up getting. Great way to get the season started.

Wow, the conditions look great, the snow came just in time for you. A little while till we go at the end of January but hopefully the conditions keep up.

I think things should be fine for end of January. More snow falling this afternoon, into Monday. And then another storm forecast for Christmas day. Looks like the weather patterns are favoring CO this season.

Most ski areas in Summit and Eagle County reporting 10"-12" today. With more snow flurries, and further accummulation forecast for Thursday. Good for the holiday crowds for sure.

scubadancer The season looks to be shaping up with really good conditions in CO. Definitely recommend a day at Breck. or even take a look at Vail or Keystone too. You really can't go wrong if the conditions are good at any of them.
