All seems strange as next week 19/20 Dec Montgenevre is showing no snow but Claviere in the same valley is showing 11cm! Come on I need some positive news!

It's snowing right now. Montgenevre 6 slopes are open. Eagle rock and the slopes form the top of the Chalmettes. Basically whatever has a snow cannon and is north facing. Claviere pistes are open as far as Sagna Longa. Good snow reported in Sestriere and the heights of Sauze d'Oulx. Serre Chevalier closed until Saturday. I'm hoping they will be putting a minibus on to link Montgenevre and Claviere. Tour operators will be putting on minibus / coaches for away days to Sestriere. There will be a cost for these.

I have just returned from a week in Montgenevre today (20 Dec).
Serre Chevalier has little snow. Montgenevre has around 10 lifts open, so far from fully open, but it has the best snow in the area. More snow is forecast over the next few days, but it will need a lot to open the Chalvet area.

Been a very good day up in Montgenevre, though snow was 30% of what we had in Serre, was almost bizarre in driving out of Briancon snow was obvioulsy so much less........
Stylister taking a nice line, powder was there to be had on a VERY shallow base but all good fun though skiing in the trees was a bit disconcerting with all the tree stumps showing, and then back in the van over to Italy for a fantastic pizza and so much cheaper than France, and then back to montgenevre for a few more runs.
Very pleasant day
Anyway more here http://www.stylealtitude.com/pow-wow.html

Monty quite crowded today, but Claviere much less so, but hard packed and icy low down. Seemed to be more snow there but still many runs unpisted, despite looking good; back in Monty the closed runs have very little on them. Still, it's much better than expected, and about to start dumping tomorrow arvo, with 30cm expected Xmas day; may well prevent getting out much, but will open up all of Godrans and Chalvet for the next week.

Steady snow this evening; looks to continue for 24hrs minimum getting heavier. Don't know if the pisteurs will work through Xmas to get the higher slopes open. Claviere was good today and less cloudy and icy than Monty. No pressies for us tomorrow so will be heading out early on hopefully empty snowy slopes. Happy Christmas.

We were in Nevache yesterday (1594m) and at 17:00 it was snowing steadily.
I'm driving (hopefully) over the Col around 09:30 so will be interesting to see the snow level, here in Serre at 1400m it's been raining since yesterday and very very strong winds.

Great day, 20-30cms on most pistes, Claviere a bit clearer in the arvo, still snowing hard now at 10.30pm. What a change from 24hrs ago. Bashers heading up Chalvet at 3.30 pm so higher lifts open tomorrow ? Temps still quite high so very wet clothing today, but given the quantities of snow a good base is going down on unopened pistes. Happy Christmas all !!

Woke up to another 20cm or so. Better visibility today except at highest lifts where it was windy and cloudy. Light snow in morning, clearing as the day went on. Headed up to Chalvet 1st thing, but still not open at top. Other side was crowded, so skied some unopened pistes in the trees as they had 50cm of snow on them, and then poled over to Claviere; still no more runs open, but great off piste in the trees, and empty pistes. Bashers out low down, doing little, and snow cannons on in high wind...pointless. Came back and finished off on Rocher de L'aigle side, and noticed the main lift into Gondrans was finally running. Last day tomorrow, looks to be epic with sun, low wind, and more pistes open, but the Italians don't appear to be in any rush. Guess the avi risk is preventing high runs opening.

Back home now, but by last Friday Gondrans was finally open, and rammed, but the top of Chalvet was still shut. The link over Rocher de L`aigle was still shut, but many were skiing over to Italy through it. We went, mainly to escape the crowds, and found the pistes unmarked and unpisted, so there was a rutted ski path and plenty of off piste; in retrospect given the avalanches in SC nearby, this was risky at the top. Off to Avoriaz and then Haute Maurienne at end of month. Happy New Year

It's all open and we have an abundance of snow. Fresh snow Thursday Friday, Saturday, about 50cm. We now have about 1 meter of base. Off-piste is still dangerous, but on-piste conditions are glorious.
