I just got my first Dukes and I am fitting Black Diamond Prime's onto them.
The bindings were mounted on the skis at Sport Conrad where I bought them both. Now as the skis are with me, I have an issue.
I also believe that I have adjusted the toe height right, as it fits well and doesn't see nor sloppy nor too loose. And, as you will see from the picture, I have been able to fit the length of the binding right as well, I suppose.
Here is the question though: under pressure, the boot goes considerably further down from the position where it stands now. The break is so stiff that the boot stands up about as much as you see between the sole and the heel plate. And even under pressure it still doesn't lie flat on the heel piece, but leans to a great extent on the plastic cover of the break. This cannot be right, can it?
I am happy to take more pics and explain. I don't have a good shop around here to help me, so I trust that you can help me solve this. Otherwise, I must wait till I get to the Alps later in the winter.
doesn't look like the heel is properly locked in to me
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

+1 ^^^ It looks like the heel needs to go back a some more IMO - not by much though. The rear hasn't got enough clearance and is snapping shut on the tech rim/insert of the boot.
All that being said mate I'm sure there are some real experts/pros that can help and will know exactly whats happening at first sight. Messrs Spyderjon and a like.
Looks like the rear tabs on the binding are grabbing the sides of the heel block of the boot instead of securing above the heel block to lock the boot in place.
If I am viewing it correctly then the boot could sit about 5mm lower.
I take it the toe is locating correctly before the heel of the boot is being brought down onto the "open" heel binding?
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

+1. The heel binding is set too long so that's it's catching the heel lug on the boot halfway down the lug as opposed to on top of it. With the boot installed the head of the forward pressure screw should be flush with the outer housing. Before setting this I'd recommend slackening the din setting in the heel right off otherwise it's really hard to click the boot in on a bench.
Once you've set the forward pressure screw correctly use a 0.5mm feeler gauge between your boot & the AFD (the lateral sliding anti-friction device/plate that the ball of the boot sits on) & adjust the AFD height until the gauge can be removed with a firm smooth pull. If you haven't got a 0.5mm feeler gauge then a McDonalds coffee cup voucher works perfectly.
Buddy1664 - oops, hadn't seen your post until mine loaded.

hahaha totally wrong sorry mate. I bow to the pro above. I'll go and take my head for a number 2.

spyderjon, Thanks! I will try this as you said. Makes sense. As big davski, said, it's about 5mm too high at least and indeed sits on the tech rim. I thought this cannot be right, but well, what do I know. my first AT binding... It seems to require a considerable push to get the binding to bend backwards and this is probably what I didn't realize.
Thanks for the quick answers. Will let you know how it worked.

demos, just an extra note - if your Dukes are anything like mine then to get the forward pressure correct it will seem as if you have to screw the heel piece too far forward to be able to get the boot in at all. However, when you apply downward pressure to the boot, the heel piece slides back about 5mm to allow the boot to enter. The boot will not sit on the heel lugs with the binding open if it's set correctly. It's best to adjust the forward pressure with the boot out. Adjust, put boot in, check, release boot, adjust again, etc.
Alll, many thanks. The Dukes indeed have to be "pushed back" for them to fit to the boot. If the sole rests on the heel lugs of the binding, the boot will not be locked in.
I have managed to do everything as Spyderjon and co. suggested. Next step: waiting for more snow to Parnassos.
