A group of us are going to Champoluc at crimbo & some want a couple of private lessons with an instructor (pref English speaking) & we also want to book a guide.
Any recommendations for either in either Champoluc, Gressonay or Alagne?

the ski shop in Champoluc, accross the road from the bottom of the lift is supposed to be ok, speaks good english, i bought my boots from him.
Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

We're in Champoluc in March, thinking of getting some group lessons, for some, anyone comment on the group lessons with ski school.
spyderjon, i think you are limited to SdSI for lessons, and my only experience is with trying to get a good kids instructor.
Guidewise, the maison des guides is probably your best bet.
Champoluc hasn't been hit by the joys of market competition quite yet ...
Oh, and do your best to absolutely insist on an anglophone. Shout if you have to
Then you can post your own questions or snow reports...

spyderjon, where you staying? If not catered, defo recommend Le Sapin (if you like meats). For pizza, slightly out of town Chez Martino is quite fine. L'essential da Andreone also worth a visit. On piste, Rascard Frantze very fine.
You'll get to see more forums and be part of the best ski club on the net.

bruisedskier, it is indeed. I am impressed that their site is actually now in passable English and has pics (although no other info) up.

under a new name, seems they have a lot of detail on lessons though, pity there's not a ski school equivalent of check-a-trade.
Have you used them? Can you recommend an instructor? (This could be a mute point because we have maybe one or two who would like to do group lessons, and then you can't really choose)
snowHeads are a friendly bunch.

bruisedskier, you mean, I think, a "moot" point.
Monique Rollandin worked very well for my nieces. But I think she mostly works with kids (by which I actually mean the high level junior race teams, not beginners).
Simone Origone will be fast (he's been world speed ski champ) but you may find him teaching on 240cm skis, which will at least be interesting.
Other than that, I'd just insist on an anglophone. Unless you are going with Ski2 who have their own UK instructors.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Where is everybody staying? Champoluc a great place.
We're in the Hotel De Champoluc.
Nice, very much ski-in ski-out.
You know it makes sense.

Yep, Le Sapin great value. We have tried a lot of the places at Champoluc and they were all great. Crazy cheap compared to Switzerland.
Otherwise you'll just go on seeing the one name:

Juddernaut, we were disappointed with the soup at the place below the Crest cable car base station (I never remember names).
What used to be the Galion across the road does a great apero and a very reasonable bottle of prosecco to wash down the pizza and crisps, etc.

For guides try maison des guides. I have in the past used Mauro, Simone Origone and an old boy who's name i cant remember. All spoke decent english and we had loads of fun. Simone is from the Champoluc valley (if that is what its called), so knows it the area very well and also happens to be the fastest man in the world on skis ( http://youtube.com/v/vBxvGdMjZmE ). Don't be intimidated by this; my wife was not the worlds most confident off piste skier but he was very patient with her, and managed to keep me entertained and her happy .

PP, technically, it's the Val d'Ayas. But, hey, who's being pedantic? (...me...)

under a new name, great new website, I was however fascinated to learn of the 'bacon search' as part of their ski touring and free ride course. I have to admit failing to spot the piglets hiding in the snow.
PP, that's where they get out the specially trained Parma Hamsations to help search.
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.
