Can I mix some base cleaner myself? Maybe water and a bit of washing up liquid with an extra shot of lemon juice? Cheers.

I would expect base cleaner to contain some sort of nasty solvent, too, for shifting the wax. I just hot scrape my skis instead, seems to work fine.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

+1 for hot scrape. Base cleaner will just dry your bases out.

+1. Base cleaner is only good for cleaning in/around repair areas & cleaning scrapers.

I have used Automotive panel wipe before without any problems.

Is it really worth bothering? 0.5l of Swix base cleaner is some 10eur or so, and it lasts for 3, 4 years even for me (with xc ski classic skis you need it after every skiing). Are people really that cheap to bother about 10eur, when single day ticket is 45eur and when skis are I don't know... 1000eur?

Was just handy for me, I had panel wipe & no base cleaner. Comes of skiing in the pennines!

Panel wipe very useful for all sorts of things- stove fuel for cheap, cleaning bike bits, general degreasing.
