Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Manslaughter verdicts after 8-year-old boy is killed in Alpe d'Huez

The ski accommodation operator Pierre et Vacances, and a firefighter, have been convicted of manslaughter following the death of an 8-year-old British boy who fell down a lift shaft at the French resort of Alpe d'Huez.

The accident, in April 2001, occurred on the last day of a holiday taken by the Abel family. Euan Abel walked through the open doors of the lift, which had been forced open following an earlier incident, and plunged 40ft down the shaft. He suffered fatal head injuries.

I have nothing else to add to the report but remember the incident clearly - absolutly horrific, it shoke the whole of the resort, tourists included.
