Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Warth info?

Hi folks,

We're pondering a trip to Warth at New Year. With the link to Lech expected to be open things might be different to the past, even so if anyone has any info or advice I'd be interested to hear. In particular:

. How busy is this area at New Year. In my experience the major French resorts and St Anton all seem to be pretty heaving at NY. With the Lech link maybe this will mean Warth is busy too...

. How easy is it to get between the different areas (e.g. Damuls) - should we rent a car or are the buses OK? Depending on transfer costs we might just hire a car anyway...

. We're looking at the 4* Steffisalp, it seems to get good reviews and is in a superb location - any 1st hand experience of that or other 3/4* hotels in the area?

. Any tips for good off piste in the area. I found an old thread on here that suggested Damuls was a better bet for that?

Any other tips/warnings?

Hi sah,

Just giving this a bump. You're right Steffisalp seems to have the best location and snow for early season sounds very good. We're planning a trip to Warth for Christmas, so really interested in any info and advice snowheads can offer.

I did a short trip to Warth Schrocken 2005/6. It was around christmas and new year but can't remember exactly. We stayed in a village between the Saloberjet base station and Schroken. We used the buses quite a lot but only to get between the aforementioned. Never used it to get to Warth or further afield. As I say it was a short trip and we had my in-laws (skiers of a kind) and 8 month old baby in tow. The buses were OK - bit of waiting around as you'd expect. The area wasn't too busy. We've found some decent lift served off piste easy enough.

Mosha Marc, I don't know. The snow seems to be holding up well around the market cross in that picture.

Or should I have gone to Specsavers
