Poster: A snowHead
|
hi not sure if this is the right place to have this post but we are driving this year going on the 27th December (over night) - the 4th January back at midnight ish. there are 9 of us going to PUY St Vincent and rather than take two cars we are wandering if anyone knows who hires out a 9 seated vehicle for driving to Europe. looking at keeping costs down otherwise would just take the two cars. any suggestions would be great. thanks

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

taking two cars you already have would probably be cheaper, and more convenient in resort.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

assuming they are sensible cars, not gas guzzling monsters.

You are planning to drive down with 4 people in one car and 5 in another? Sounds, erm, horrible, unless you have a really seriously big car. I wouldn't do it in my Zafira with 5. The idea of sitting in the middle seat for 10 hours driving through France would fill me with dread.
I would personally just take two cars, but if there are 9 of you plus luggage you are going to need a decent sized van to consider the drive.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

hammy1846at4, You may find that a 9 seater that you can hire will have a speed limiter.

You'll need to Register first of course.

My niece and her family did the drive in a mini van, with friends (they didn't hire the van, it was lent to them, but they did have major problems getting it insured). There were 7 of them in all, including several quite small kids, but they didn't enjoy it at all. It was slow, rather noisy and uncomfortable. It was particularly nasty when they had to put chains on for the last 20, extra slow, miles (you are unlikely to be able to get a vehicle with snow tyres). They vowed never to do it again and regularly drive in their normal family car (which also doesn't have snow tyres but Daryl is a master with chains).
A 9 seater van might not take 9 people's luggage.

A 9 seater minibus is cat B so shouldn't have a speed limiter, other than lack of power (get one with a decent engine)
Check the weight of passengers and luggage (and full tank of fuel) as it's possible to exceed the max vehicle weight.
