Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Snowboarding in the USA where to go for Powder and good value?

 Poster: A snowHead

Hi All

I am investigating the possibility of a two week spell in the USA this season sometime in January.

None of my group have boarded in the USA and are all powder hounds so i am looking for advice as to where might be the best to head to try and at least score some POW Toofy Grin

I have been given a very good quote for Snowmass and Aspen in Feb but having researched these resorts i am not convinced on the snow record and do not want to travel so far only to ride groomed piste the whole trip due to no fresh snow fall. Shocked obvoisly we cannot guarantee fresh snow but would like to go to a resort with a good record of consistent falls.

Any suggestions as to how to do a trip on a budget would also be appreciated.

We are considering a number of options from staying in one resort for the entire two weeks to getting transport and going on a snow safari chasing the pow Razz

Cheers All

This place is ski in/out in Alta, Utah - one of the world's powder capitals:

Not exactly budget (approx £100 pppn half board in low season) - but fantastic location, great rooms and excellent food. Well worth the money. We loved our stay there - but (unluckily) had no powder in nine days in Utah Confused .....('You should have been here last week!' - then it dumped as soon as we left of course... Mad )

On the same trip we also stayed in Park City. Not as renowned for powder but good value digs (about $100/double/B&B IIRC) and very close to the slopes. Nice town too:

And from Park City you can also ski/board Deer Valley and the Canyons. We had no car but managed easily with public transport and transfers. Also did the Olympic Bobsleigh Run near Park city - Wowwww!! Shocked Skullie

Don't go to Alta Cool

At least at Snowbird they'll let you onto the slopes.
