Poster: A snowHead

For our overnight stop we have stayed last few years at Les Charmilles Chalon sur Saone. Always been happy with it, but is a little pricey.
Looking for a bog standard hotel somewhere near Macon. Want something nicer than a F1 type room, but not to flash either. Somewhere to eat also good, but happy with McD etc

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

Boris, we've had a few nice ones in Beaune, but not stayed in Macon. Hotel de la Paix has private secure parking and a good breakfast. No restaurant, but there are loads of brasseries and cafés within 200m or so. Rooms were reasonable on our last visit.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Boris, A few years ago I stopped just south of Macon, just off the motorway. There is a commercial centre there with the usual food choices and at that time a Campanile and Premiere Classe. We stayed in the Premiere Classe (3 bed rooms, 3rd a bunk above double with bathroom & wc) and ate in the Campanile next door. It was several years ago, there might be more choice there now.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Boris, Not stayed in Macon, but could recommend the Ibis Styles in Beaune (free underground parking, free wifi, breakfast included). It's right next to some decent places to eat too.

Is Avallon off route Boris? I can give you the names of a couple in that area that are excellent, both in terms of what they offer and value for money. I found them both using Booking.com then booked direct using the numbers on heir web sites. One has a very good restaurant the other is a B&B but has excellent restaurants within walking distance. Both have secure parking and are just off the motorway.

Boris, Keep your eye on the Accor website and sign up for their emails as they often have sales. We stayed in the Novotel Reims this summer for 56euros which I thought was a great price. Other thing to watch is room configurations; Novotel do rooms for 4 and Ibis for 3 (usually) but both often have a deal on the second room booked.

Thanks all - yes pelase send me any details you have will take a look.
We went with les Charmilles originally as is one of a very small number of hotels which have Family room for 5 people. Now kids are older we tend to have 2 rooms. As we know Les Charmilles, and they know us, we always get 2 rooms at end of corridor next to each other so is ideal in many ways, just rooms are €80 each which is a bit steep for an overnight!

Boris, Novotel and Campanile are just off the Peage at Beaune. Can't say more as haven't stayed there for a few years now, as we always go down in one day.

Boris, the hotel I mentioned above in Beaune has family apartments, but I think they will be a similar price to two rooms in Les Charmilles.
