Is it too early to start getting excited?
I emailed nivranalps asking when passes would be sent out, they said if I ordered this week I should receive it in the UK at the end of the month. But they also stated that the free days at other resorts, which I was planning to make use of before the Les Arcs lifts open, are only valid from the 22nd of December. So I'm just going to collect the passes when I get there. It also means I can make 3 separate payments, spread out a month apart . I'm hoping that there's no chance they might end the early lift pass purchase before the end of November..
Nivarnalps would only confirm that the season pass gave two days each at 3V / EK, and to contact them 'later' for info about other resorts. I'm hoping to at least get a discount at Ste Foy.

Few things: one to set an early marker, to ensure the thread comes up on my "your threads page...." ;
two, 10th anniversary details some of which I posted on the 2013 thread, and specifically re the handbag above:
Ten years ago, on the 20th December 2003, skiers embarked for the first time on the Vanoise Express
(the world’s biggest cable car) to discover the 425km of pistes in the PARADISKI ski domain, linking the
resorts of Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne [Savoie-France]. The second biggest ski domain
in the world, PARADISKI is part of a group of very large interconnected domains.
To celebrate this anniversary, PARADISKI has asked the haute-couture designer, Jean-Charles DeCastelbajac,
to decorate its Vanoise Express cable car. The world-renowned artist and innovator will cover the two
double-decker Vanoise Express cable cars in a unique creation which will feature throughout winter
2013/2014.
Which explains the funny colours
This year PARADISKI is creating an event on the 16th December 2013 featuring PARADISKI GRAVITY.
This will mark a world first in «highline» (high altitude slack line). The slack line will be strung between
two cable cars 380m high. Two of the world’s best ‘high liners’, Julien Millot and Tancrede Melet will
negotiate their way along the rope, which will be suspended over the valley between the two cable
cars of the Vanoise Express, defying gravity against an awesome backdrop!
Anyone going to be out on 16th Dec?
Had a preview of the new Paradiski logo at the London launch party a couple of weeks ago - looks like they've moved on from the Angel, to the Temptation in the garden of Eden. So it's a red apple hanging in the snowy backdrop. I'll see if I can find a small picture to post. Fairly certain it's in the public domain now... (he says hopefully!)
Quite a few events to celebrate 10th anniversary, and not forgetting it is Arc1950's 10th birthday too, so lots going on there. The film festival is focussing on Slovakian film ( I think! - certainly East European!) this year - I take it snowcrazy you'll be your usual helpful self to the starlets and money?
Oh, and:
Drive A Piste Basher
Become a piste basher pilot and drive a Pisten Bully machine, 430bhp, used by
the professionals to prepare the pistes overnight . At the controls of this impressive
machine, you are accompanied by a professional on a closed circuit . The circuit is at
Plagne Villages, opposite the caravan car park .
Rates: €60 for a 20 minute baptism of fire with certificate .

Snow to resort level. Nice to see my apartment looking wintry in the middle of October, but doesn't mean much in terms of how good the season will be.

With 15cm of snow on Sunday morning I was tempted to go for my first ski of the season - drive around to Arc 1950 or 2000 and ski down to Pre st Espirit. However when Sunday morning broke I chickened out (or should the term be sobered up) and went for a walk instead. It was really beautiful.
Nice photo rob@rar, I will try and get my less impressive one up sometime today. And you are right it doesn't offer any insight into the snow conditions for the season and was already melting when we left.

More snow in the alps today. Nice photo rob. Take a look at the web cams.
Not sure the new web page is any easier to use than the old one. See what you think?
Here is the link to the web cams.

I have also checked and updated all the links in the opening message of this page. All are working today. Hope that helps with your planning.

Hi All. I am looking for recommendations for private instructors who might be available half term week. There are four of us, 2 adults and 2 kids (12 & 9) who have grown out of ski school and looking for something a little more bespoke if that makes sense.

We have a quote from Faye @ New Gen in Vallandry for afternoon sessions but I wanted to see what the Snowheads could recommend before committing. We are happy to ski to wherever to meet up as long as time allows, in the mornings.

Lemond, Maybe it's best for you to send a pm to snowcrazy & ask him - I think he has recommended instructors in 2000 or 1950 in the past. I'm over in Plan Peisey, & the guys I know are all based there. New Gen in Vallandry are good though, & their clients always look like they are having a good time

Lemond, It doesn't make sense to go to Vallandry from 2000 1st thing in the morning. Morning private lessons @ 1/2 term might not be easy as most will doing group lessons. There is Spirit 1950 in Arc1950 or ESF in 2000. We have used both and had good results. We used Julien Cormons in ESF in 2000 for the kids 2 years ago, he was great, perfect English and he can ski or board instruct.

genepi, Thanks I know but he also mentions mornings......Anyway morning or afternoon I still think there are good instructors in 2000 and 1950 that a trek to Vallandry isn't worth it. Thats my opinion

Thanks genepi & theft controller. Looks like I should contact esf and see what we can get in 1950 or 2000. I agree a trip over to Vallandry in the morning definitely out of the question but the afternoon sounds like a much more civilised proposition if we can't get anyone in 2000. Looking forward to the trip already. What are your recommendations for the resort and the mountains? We all loved the stash in Avoriaz 2 years ago, anything similar?

Arc adventures based at 1800 were brilliant last year, English speaking and minime had a good laugh. Did some trees and off piste(just) but nothing out of the ordinary so probably not much use to you. But there are quite a few schools based in 1800 that aren't too difficult to get to.

boredsurfin, Yep, so I read, won't effect us. You ever taken the train into Bourg and then the Funni? The 2 were inter linked by a blind man. Either you go for a very long walk down into the station and along the road or along the platform and up some really, really horrible steps. I read somewhere that the overhead gantry at the end of the platform was being worked on to make access for foot passengers easier?
|
|

You know it makes sense.
|
thefatcontroller, easiest (and cheapest) thing they could do would be to let you off the Eurostar platform at the rear of the train!
Still have to deal with those steps, but at least it wouldn't be proceeded by a pointless 600yd round trip...

Arctic Roll, Yes, took me a while to figure out the Eurostar issue as the gates on that platform are always open when we are there but yes I can see it being a right PITA. We normally end up mid platform coming off the overnight so we walk to the gantry where I gallantly take both bags up the steps, or to be 100% correct I take up mrsfatcontroller's bag up the steps that she has left for me at the bottom.

Fresh snow high up again and some of the passes are now closed from the 1st November 2013. You need to check your routes if you plan on driving in the mountains across the high passes. It looks like winter has arrived.
SKI PASS DISCOUNT at Les Arcs and the Paradiski. The discounted 10% on lift passes for holidays this season from 1 to 15 days has been extended to 15 November and for season passes the 20% discount finishes on 30 November so buy early and save money.
http://lesarcs.paradiski.com/
To answer your question. I think if I remember correctly it was about 28 euros for the extra pass paying when you got to the VE in the morning. I would not promise this correct. Best email Les Arcs and ask them then post correct price here if I was wrong. Hope that helps.

It was 28 euro per one day extension last year. Pay at the lift office to the right of the VA lift (go through the concrete tunnel). For some reason you cannot pay at any other lift pass office.

johnE, hi John, pleased my memory was correct. I had people buy the upgrade at the lift office at Arc 1800 and Arc 1950 last season so not sure why you were not able to do that.
Anyone wanting to get an upgrade for the day to cross the VE, it is better to try and get it at your station office the evening before if possible rather than at the busy time in the morning. You need to check the closing time of your office as some close quite early. Hope you can still do this. Saves a lot of time in the morning rush.

It was in Arc 1600 a couple years ago. I didn't bother trying after that, but now will. We walk past the lift pass office every morning and apart from a few days in the week it is usually deserted.

Went Paradski unlimited. Saved 54 euro and you also pay for the passes over 3 months. Not a bad deal. Might be an indication of what they perceive as the season ahead numbers being like in that they are offering deals already?
|
|
|
|
|
|
The 'pay over 3 months' deal also applies to season passes, so I've been delaying my purchase until the end of the month so the payments will be spread out until the end of Jan. Pretty handy when I have a lot of other upfront costs such as 5 months rent to pay in advance!
