Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi guys looking for somewhere to snowboard/ski 3rd week in Jan (intermediate me, beginner girlfriend), with easy transfers, good snow, and not too expensive.
Been to super Morzine/Avoriaz twice, normally stop in Morzine for the night life and get the cable car up to Avoriaz. Would like to go somewhere new but if not can always head back to Avoriaz as guaranteed the snow.
Any recommendations much appreciated
Many thanks

So many places, Three Valleys, Tignes, Les Arcs, Serre Chevalier in France. Saalbach, Ischgl in Austria. Somewhere in Sella Ronda in Italy.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Tom W, of the places in your list, several probably don't fall into the "not too expensive" category and compared to morzine a number of those don't have easy transfers, either.
kev1387, To narrow things down a bit it would be helpful if you said a bit more about what you want in a town, what sort of accommodation you want and whether you prefer to be "ski in/out" or maybe stay more centrally in a town with more character. kev1387,

pam w, Your are right, I did not read it carefully so that will leave Saalbach then (transfer is not bad, snow is usually good at least till mid March, runs are great and nightlife is epic).
Serre Chevalier might be cheaper than other French resorts, but transfers are probably over 3h.
Or if you ok with 3h transfer there are almost always reasonable last minute chalets deals to La Tania in Three Valleys.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Skiing at Innsbruck would have the shortest of transfers and from what I gather would tick all other boxes too. But I never understood why 'easy transfers' are important to anyone else other than those travelling with small, wayward children who don't really deserve to go skiing anyway.

I agree - a pleasant 3 hour drive in the mountains shouldn't really be a big problem for adults!

moffatross, pam w, Agree, unless you want to ski on your transfer days.
But otherwise if you wasting whole Saturdays just for getting to the resorts, 3h on the bus is nothing, or at least not a deal breaker.

that's pretty difficult, for the most part, if you fly. If you do want to ski on transfer days the best way I've found is to travel by coach. Two whole Saturdays skiing!
