Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Giro Fuse Helmet

Guys,

I bought a Giro Fuse Helmet this year, in Canada, and I'm trying to get the TuneUps (speakers) for it, but nowhere in the UK sells them. Now I've found out that this helmet doesn't comform to EC 1077 regulations. Does anyone know what this means?

You could always get the TuneUps sent from over the water - try http://shop.store.yahoo.com/snowshack/giro-tuneups.html

The fuse does I believe conform to CE EN1078 - which is technically a bicycle helmet standard. Main difference is that 1077 specifies ventilation holes holes no bigger 9mm (approximating to the point of a ski pole) - just in case youmanage to plant your poles on your head when falling. I think the restrictions are a bit different re shock resistance, and performance in variable temperatures too, but I'd say Giro are a reputable enough outfit for you not to be unduly worried.

I recall reading tests suggesting that the giro fuse and nine were some of the best helmets available.... so im guessing tha regulation doesnt mean alot....

Your best bet on the tuneups might be ebay..... even to a US seller since the cost is low, shipping would be cheap and possibly no dutuies.
