Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'm after somewhere for me and the wife, it's her 2nd time and will be in ski school am. We opted for La Tania last year so I had the 3V to go off and play in in the mornings.

I'm trying to avoid the half term queues (although last year wasn't too bad) and fancy a change from France.

Après not massively important, as long as I can get a beer aft skiing I'm happy.

rjb, I think MdC would suit you extremely well on the basis of what you have said. Loads of great, confidence-giving runs. Awesomely wonderful hot chocolate with rum as anarchicsaltire, says. Food on the mountain is excellent quality and prices are sinificantly lower than France. MdC is probably the most stylish Italian resort having superseded Cortina some time ago and consequently the skiing there is about far more than just the skiing. The runs are beautifully pisted and it has a reputation for being not only snowsure but also very sunny. We did inadvertently choose one of the snowiest weeks possible and seldom saw the sun, but judging by the reaction of the locals the poor weather was very unusual.

Choose your hotel carefully as you eant to be sure of starting next to the right lift. Otherwise you may have to catch a lift, ski down and lift up to get to the ski school meeting point.

No idea of crowds in Feb, but in March it was incredibly, eerily quiet. Many times we were the only ones on the piste or lift.

Transfer is close to 3 hours, but only due to distance, not Moutier-style queues.

I can strongly recommend Enchanted Holidays. V small TO who specialise exclusivey in MdC. Dominic runs it and is vv helpful.

We stayed in a a garni hotel (B&B) call ed the Montana which did us very well indeed. Bedrooms 3 times the size of anything I have stayed in in France, good breakfasts, and loads of restaurants to eat out in the evening within an easy walk.

Downsides?

Honestly not many. We had bad weather, but so did everyone, everywhere in the Alps that week. Prices are significantly cheaper than France, but the quality is a division better so you can easily end up spending the same amount. I.e. fewer restaurants do a hamburger and chips for lunch. They are more likely to do homemade pasta in a wild boar ragu.

People friendly, mountains pretty, good snow....what more do you want? That was the first time we have skiied in Italy and TBH I'm not rushing back to France.

Any more Q's, drop me a line here, or PM me. Others will probably know the place better, it's just that I'm more verbose Very Happy

Ski school meets at the top of Pradalago lift, so you need easy access to there. The Montana, for example, has a 50m walk up the pavement with skis, then you ski a v gentle 100 yards to the bottom of the pradalago lift. You can ski back to the hotel door, and also ski from the hotel to the cinque laghi lift. Maybe other ski schools meet elsehwere, but not sure. If seriously interested then DO talk to Dominic. He did us very well.
