Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Where have the race replica skis gone?

Has anyone noticed that the "recreational race carvers" are vanishing (have vanished?) from UK shops/ lists? In Austrian or German shops there are racks of RC4 or Volkl Racetiger variants from full FIS race machines to general use types in slalom, GS and intermediate radius. Fischer alone have 5 RC4 variants which are NOT FIS race skis.

Snow and rock boast "the largest selection in the UK" but have precisely one race based ski on their website and that is a mid radius derivative not a slalom or GS style ski. At a demo last year there was nothing less than 75mm underfoot and no "race rep" skis at all

There seems to be an assumption that everyone who progresses beyond gentle cruising wants to ski off piste or do freestyle. What about people who like slalom or GS style skis

They buy them from a proper ski shop like Bartletts not Slush & Rubble?

Makes sense - understandably the standard of skiers and their knowledge of skis is much higher than the UK. UK mkt is much more about marketing

Col the Yeti, slush and crap haven't stocked raceskis, let alone faux race skis in years. no mass market for them in the uk. whereas in alpine sountries, every bug and his mother does super Gs before sunday lunch.

Rossignol WC GS skis (FIS spec) in Decathlon Coventry today. And one of the variants of the Fischer RC4 too, Probably because they're not primarily a UK company so they get some of the range which is stocked in the continental shops.

Col the Yeti, Well considering most UK suppliers are no longer doing the standard shop version race skis that is why, Salomon and Atomic both do a race ski with a varying radus based on the length you purchase. Supply and demand I guess.
