Poster: A snowHead
|
Hi all,
I know its early but a few of my friends have been talking about organizing a ski trip for this December leaving either 22nd or 29th December and they have voted for me to be in charge. Brilliant...
Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me to narrow down my search. I think these are some of the criteria.
- Self catered
- Varied ski area/Linked resort
- Europe
- high resort: its still a little early in the season so somewhere high would be safer
- close to town/compact resort: last year chalet was a 20 min walk out of town and it was a bit much
- OK nightlife - we went to Morzine and that was okish
I know this might have been covered a few times but where would you go if you had this group?

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

alex86ws, welcome to snowheads. I think most people would judge that nightlife in Morzine is better than in a lot of French resorts, and almost certainly better than the "high snowsure" ones. If you are looking for something a lot livelier you would probably be better off going to Austria, maybe St Anton. There are plenty of people here who know the Arlberg area very well and could advise on specifics. either of those weeks will be busy and expensive though - New Year is one of the most expensive and busiest weekends of the year.
If you were going the week before Christmas you could afford to leave booking much later, and see where the snow is - but for those weeks it does make sense to be looking now.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

alex86ws, Hard to guess where have you been already or not.
But I would suggest obvious choices: Tignes/Val d'Isere or Val Thorens in France or Ischgl in Austria.

Sorry should have said, I've been to Banff, Val D, Morzine and Avoriaz. Would be really keen on Austria this year so I'll start with Tom W's suggestion.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I'd suggest Les Arcs, specifically Arc 1800. Meets all of the requirements you've posted above

Email the Ischgl tourist office for self catering options, great nightlife and one of the safer bets early in the season.
