Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Summer, won't hold you to it but if you were a betting woman, how do you think the conditions will hold up until say the 23rd.........?

Just down from teaching and its snowing and gusty up top! The pistes are rock hard from yesterdays sun and overnight drop in temp. Due to improve after lunch with sun making an appearance though, so all good

I think as long as its stays cold at night and does not bounce up too high during the day....You will be fine. The snow depth up top is first class at the moment. The long range here on the Swiss side looks promising with a dip later in the week and some snow with rise again on Tuesday. There is a big depression making its way down this direction so will wait and see. Been out here too many years and cannot remember a bad March!!!

Oh its grey this morning and -3 at 1300m here, just off up to meet clients and looks like the odd shower of snow could come. Pistes look splendid! Will give a better report of pistes later as skiing over towards Avoriaz and then Chatel.

We are coming out for a week on the 14th March. Fingers firmly crossed for good snow. As we are on an Inspired to Ski course, will trust our instructors/guides to find the best that there is Cool

By the way, does Morzine have a swimming pool as like swimming after skiing sometimes. Thanks.

We are staying at Chalet Perrier run by Host Savoie who have been very helpful and efficient via email so far. Looking forward to it.

Pistes are still hard and fast, slight sprinkle of snow after lunch yesterday and little more due today. Approx 3-5cm on local Swiss meteo. The same over weekend with temperature dipping down on Sunday. Its grey, with little spots of blue sky at 8.30am this morning. Have to say off piste is pretty bullet hard and crispy on top at the moment though from rain, wind and sun combination. Chatel was lovely yesterady for you guys staying there! Blush

Things looking up in Les Gets. Have been regular sprinklings of snow last couple of days (snowing in resort right now). Some lower runs cutting up a lot late in day but generally finding some great skiing, much improved from early in the week. Off piste v crusty not my bag but still looks pretty Madeye-Smiley Morzine resort runs were a bit dire two days ago right down near resort but still usable and otherwise no complaints. Forecast more light snow today then big drop in temp overnight. Fingers (or skis) crossed for crisp sunny pistes after a fresh dusting tomorrow!!

Yes, in Morzine, you can cool off in the outdoor Olympic sized swimming pool in town. There are also lakes in Montriond and Les Gets where you can swim safely. Hope this is helpful.

Yes, but it's not open in the winter. An indoor pool is in the pipeline, but it'll be a few years.

A couple of hotels in town allow people to use their pools for a fee.

The off piste has been smoothed off by the rain last week, then it had a couple of cm's of snow that has stuck well, it made for great conditions today. Better off than on.....

Could not agree more, areas of Linga/Chatel were real fun yesterday! Looks like apossible sprinkling of snow over the next two days with very very low temps through until Wednesday. Might be worth getting the edges sharpened and some higher protection factor!

Very cold yesterday - strong wind and very little sun. Mixture of windswept (icy) and windblown runs.

Today much better - a few runs at Barbossine and Super Chatel before meeting some friends to ski over to Torgon and La Chapelle. Pistes in great nick and virtually deserted.

Off to St Jean d'Aulps for a couple of circuits of the Roc d'Enfer tomorrow (though the real attraction is the croute savoyarde at La Licorne restaurant!)

Cold in St.Jean d'Aulps today (-8C at 10.30) with a mix of sun and light snow. Everything skiable and higher pistes in superb condition. A few icy patches under the trees on the long run down the valley back to St.J.d'A.

Round the PDS circuit tomorrow so will look out for Summer and her ski school bunnies.

Well, here you go......Blue ish skies up top at 8.20am this morning, few clouds lurking but nothing forecast to fall out of them! Still very cold, pistes are best I have ever seen them in March! Normally here on Swiss side they get so much sun on them in the afternoons they get ploughed up beyond recognition. This year the temperature has so far remained well below zero all day and no slush fun as a consequence. Yesterday skied with good clients in Avoriaz and Combe du Machon had some lovely chalky snow to play in, Crozats looked good and all the way down to Prodain was lovely too.
It was minus 18 at top of Mossettes yesterday but reported to be a few dgrees warmer up there today!
Definitely a sharpened edge day with carving on the agenda!

"pistes are best I have ever seen them in March" - that, summer, is music to my ears! massively excited about heading out there now. depending on which forecast you pick it also looks like temps should stay low with a bit of snow thrown in too which should keep things nicely topped up.

not sure which day next week we are doing it yet, but watch out for a group of 16 of us all in fancy dress. i'll be leading the way as scooby doo and we have a few other characters in the mix from a full on gorilla to a crocdile!

Skied Chatel/PDS over the weekend. Unbelievably cold, but pistes are in superb condition and empty. Skied Bernex yesterday morning and the snow is good right down to the carpark, all for a 15Eur pass. wrap up warm and enjoy.

What summer said! Pistes are really good and not usually like this on our March lad's trip. No sign of any freeze/thaw (its too cold), no grass/slush on the Swiss Southfacing slopes and anything that has been pisted is in really good nick. Skied Petit Chatel - Chalet Neuf - Morgins -Champoussin - Les Crosets - Ripaille - Les Crosets and mow in Lindarets for lunch.

A few icy patches here and there but mostly superb.

Best of all the Point d'Au chair is back in action. No signs of serious maintenance other than a few shiny new bolts.

Good call from BergenBergen. Might try Bernex on Friday.

Cannot agree more with DJL, pistes are fast and smooth! I have just telemarked Ripaille at 2.40pm (Run down to Grand paradis chair) and seen a total of four people on route....Fan bloody tastic! Only downer is that it would be lovely to dine on a terrace in the sun once this season without suffering hyperthermia! Will watch for Scooby and 16 buddies!

Sun out most of the day in Les Gets and Mt Chery was in excellent form - absolutely empty pistes most of the time so you felt it was your own private world out there, no queues to speak of so no let up. Down to the village and back many times, just one corner that was a bit on the soft side at 3 this afternoon but only a tiny bit.

Pamski, was absolutely beautiful when we left on Monday. Managed to ski lots before 1pm. Tulipe & Eglantine several times, lots of whooping Very Happy Also did Les Creux for the first time as was on such a high and didn't give myself a chance to back out. Even managed 30mins in a deck chair, was just about warm enough.

Hi all - seems you guys know your stuff about this area so would appreciate some advice if that's OK? A group of us are debating whether to ski Morzine or Zermatt from Wednesday next week (have booked flights into GVA). We need to make a decision on where to head to partly on a travel time basis (so Morzine wins on this aspect). What I'd like to figure out is this :

- conditions sound good, is this right?
- will Morzine keep 2 strong intermediate skiers and 1 boarder happy for 3 days (we like fast carving, long runs, variety etc)?
- what is lift system like / would you recommend spending a day doing part of the PDS circuit?
- what is nightlife like (after a couple of civilized, busy bars for a few beers / apres etc)?
- what is Morzine as a town like?

Many thanks!

franga, conditions are very good at the moment. We have been back in Les Gets since Monday evening and having read a bit of doom and gloom here a week or so ago I was expecting the worse but its all very good. We were up on the Chamossiere this morning and that was excellent, but also much lower down is still in good condition.

I am sure that for 3 days you will find plenty to keep you occupied and a day doing PDS would not come amiss.

Afraid I know nothing of nightlife... we sometimes have an early evening drink out, or dinner maybe but I expect those a lot younger than us can comment!

Great day over in Morzine/Les Gets. Conditions still very good.

Nyon,Chamossiere,Chavannes bowl and a few runs down Pleney. Les Creux in good condition - firm but bumps not too big. Myrtilles much tougher with icy bumps.

Arrived back in Chatel to light snow and -6C. Knees ache a bit and the guys complaining about too much skiing!

Franga, there is no chance you will get bored in 3 days if based in Morzine but I would recommend a day round the PDS. I can't see the conditions deteriorating too mich by mid next week though obviously Zermattlets you get higher. Can't help on bars/food/nightlife as we're based in Chatel.

franga, a brief answer to your other questions:

Morzine is a nice, reasonably large year-round resort, with plenty of decent bars for a beers in the evening, particularly in a little cluster in the centre of town (the Buddha bar for example, but there were another few there as well), and also another little run of bars about 3 or 4 minutes walk from there such as the Dixie Bar.

There are lots of good carving runs in Morzine, Les Gets and the rest of the PdS, and plenty of variety

The lift system is excellent, but Morzine isn't necessarily the best spot to explore the PdS as getting to Avoriaz, Chatel and the Swiss side is a bit of a drag unless you have a car and take it to Ardents or Prodains, but not impossible as there are buses or a combination of lifts to get across.
