Wet, wet, wet. Rain stopped for a bit but hammering down again now. Expecting a short, soggy ski today, because the lad is likely to get wet during his am lesson as much as anything else!

It's currently dry in Chatel and the cloud looks like it will break and brighten up. Had a leisurely breakfast and going to head up soon anyway

Raining again in Les Gets after brief respite while we were walking the dog and the sky brightened. Dog now confused as we are eating breakfast at 9.30 and have usually left half an hour ago. We have enjoyed a couple of really lovely mornings this week at Praz de Lys, and over into Sommand on Wednesday was a joy with us..... and maybe four other people in the distance.

I've been in Avoriaz since last Sunday and enjoyed some great conditions. Sunshine, perfect visibility and adventures off pistes I would not normally have as I am unable to manage powder.
It did not snow last night and today's snow was insubstantial but visibility was very poor. Visibility was better lower down but the snow was a drag and the rain was unwelcome.
Stopped at La Ferme Des Pistes on the Chatel side and had a lovely meal. Reasonably priced as well.
I hope those coming next week have as good a holiday as I have had.

Not as bad as expected in Morzine. Although the snow was very heavy lower down in particular, it was generally not too bad higher up. Above the mid-station at Nyon, the snow was lovely with a bit of squeak to it. Rain stopped by 10am in time for my lad's lesson (Patrice from Easy2ride - he was excellent and the boy made lots of progress). All getting a bit sketchy on the lower pistes and some of the popular link routes - snow is needed. Having said that we've had some great skiing with the majority of runs open and some great conditions at times, not to mention lots of sun!

Had a great day today. Sunny all day but a little colder than the last few days. Very nice lunch at La Ferme in Linderates. Less than10 euro for a half litre of rose wine and a good meal for 12 to 18 euro.
I know the forecast is for heavy snow tonight and I hope it happens but it sure doesn't feel like it's going to snow. My fingers are crossed for those arriving for the coming week. I have had a mighty holiday.

Excellent! La Ferme in Lindarets is one of the places that we like to stop at - they are very friendly there and we frequently stop on the way back to the car at Ardent and my coffee slides into a glass of Rose very easily. Sometimes lunch there too and also visit in the summer when we are here. But this year we have not bought PDS passes.
So a good morning, again, spent at Praz de Lys and Sommand. Looks as if the road is going to be closed quite a bit of the day again next week on the way up there as the rocks have slipped some more by the look of it.
Definitely another change in the weather on the way.

Lovely sunny day today. First cold day for a while and the overnight refreeze made for very firm conditions this morning.
Very busy today. Lovely weather brought the day trippers and it is apparently the start of the Swiss holidays for some cantons. Additionally there were some weekend lift pass deals on. So very busy on hard pack meant it was like the wacky races up there in certain places.
Very windy up there too and I heard that some of the upper lifts closed and people have been stuck in the wrong valley.
A storm on its way tonight bringing either loadsa snow or loadsa rain, we shall see!!

The foehn today seems to have done a fair bit of damage, and thats before the torrential rain started. Lower runs were already struggling, I'd expect many of them to be back to the start by the time this storm clears through.

Just arrived after our wettest ever journey. Raining as we left my mother in laws house in the Netherlands and didn't stop through NL, B, L, F and CH. 10 hours of it! Lots of trees blown over in the Ardennes
Lowest temperatures en route 3C over the Vosges, 2C and a bit of sleet through the Jura and 1.5C the Chatel side of the Pas de Morgins at 22.00. Sleet up there but 2.5C and back to rain in the village. 10C at Montreux!
Hope the forecasts are a few degrees out. There must be snow currently above about 1600m I would guess.
Might be a duvet day tomorrow before picking up the rest of the guys from GVA in the evening.

Happy to meet up at some point if you have no other plans. If it is really grim tomorrow we have a chocolate panettone and Yorkshire teabags!

Up in Avoriaz and about to leave. It snowed all night and was very windy. Still snowing now and the wind had died down. Whispy snow but it has settled, about 20cm on the window sill.

Looking west down the valley I can see snow line on Mont de Grange at about 1300m. That is the height of our apartment on the other side of the valley but the level is about 150m above us. Snow covered trees on Point du Saix At 1578m and it doesn't look like wet stuff up there. Thin layer of v wet snow on the car.
Conclusion is probably plenty of fresh above 1500m. Balcony thermometer 4.5C. Steady rain falling but little wind. Who knows how the day will pan out.
Daughter not keen on poor visibility skiing so I think pottering in order at least this morning.
@sarah, if you need restoring with panettone drop me a line by text or call

We're just back from 4 days in Morzine/Avoriaz - plenty of skiing to be had but a lot of it's a bit pants. North facing and high seems to be the key - runs off Fornet and Hauts Forts were ok at the top but got icy and sketchy the further down you got. Off piste pretty much a no-go (well if you're as bad at skiing crusty stuff as me it was).
Shame - hope it gets a lot more by easter when we're back out!

it rained all night in morzine. we headed up Les Gets side today . ..wet wet wet ......with the odd good snow patch.......
the snow at the top of nyon was good but everywhere else gloopy. as soon as you touch the bits off the piste its like glue.
visibility was poor and it rained/sleeted most of the day.
the next two days look like less rain and clearer skies so heading avoriaz way to see what we can find.

Heading out to Morzine for the first time on Thursday hoping to get out and ski on the Thursday afternoon. Looking at the current conditions and forecast where would people recommend we head for the best snow? Im guessing people are going to say Avoriaz, is this doable for an afternoon?

Sitting in geneva airport. Just had three days in morzine. Lots of snow to slide on over the three days. A little wet on Friday but cleared off and we had plenty of fun in avoriaz. Saturday morzine/Les gets side icy at first then warmed up, plenty of fun up Rosta. Started raining in Morzine last evening then again this morning, up at Avoriaz was snowing, high lifts were shut and windy on the tops. Once off the top nice,if heavy, snow. Snow turned to rain and our luggage overweight as a result. No excess charge for it though! Guess easyjet taking a leaf out of Ryanair and being nice!
Not perfect but very acceptable
Think the snow above 1600 will keep them going for next week, runs in to lower resort villages are shot unless temperatures drop and they can make artificial. Or better still, the real stuff end of the week?

So folks, how much damage has the recent rain done?
We're heading out on Saturday and are staying in Les Nantes - just off the blue piste down the Pleney called "Retour de Nantes" - I think I already know the answer, but guessing it won't be possible to ski back to the apartment without a significant change in the forecast?

@chopkins13, we are off out shortly. Haven't skied in Les Gets since Thursday but have to at least get to La Paika for lunch today as that is booked! I can see people on the drag lift at La Turche from our bedroom window so that is working. It is clear now.

Forecasts here in Grenoble currently predicting significant snow for Wednesday around here. Let's hope that is accurate. Not bad for the following week either at the moment, but things can change quickly in the mountains.

Was out this morning. To be fair the pistes in general look better than they did on Saturday. There is new snow at the top (which they're pushing together offpiste to protect) but it was ugly. Did not freeze overnight and it's soft, sticky and heavy.
It was this time last year that it was dumping down it what was really the only significant snowfall of the season.
