Big skier triggered slide on Albona yesterday apparently. |
Not surprised, there were natural ones going everywhere on Thursday and Friday followed by a little cool down and heavy snow Friday night........

Going out for the weekend, anyone locally know if Griabli is open and if there are any plans for a season end Snowtones show?stanton, I'm surprised at your comments re Griabli, its my favourite bar, great food, great music and the staff have been there years, I know some of them and Heli treats them well. |
Except for the Pizza & Omeletes all the food is out of bag & just warmed up, way over rated !
Griabli had it closing party a the previous weekend. They built a huge stage for this band from Germany.

Lifts may be closed but still the odd person around, spotted somebody coming down in to Nasserein yesterday on skis having skinned up. Personally I'm sticking to the push bike, leisurely ride along the river to Pettneu and back today in the glorious sunshine.

Not made it that far up yet (getting back in to biking towards the end of last summer after a 15yr gap and fitness levels haven't really helped). Would imagine there's still plenty of snow around higher up, still some large patches of snow (and ice) along the river on the Rendl side of the Rosanna, made for an unexpected scary moment this morning when the bike suddenly started sliding away from me! Will try and post a couple of photos up over the next few weeks, not heading back to the UK from Anton until mid May.

Once the snow has go e sufficiently suggest doing the climb up to Putzenalm and down Schoengraben returning to St Jakob starting from Pettneu eastern end of St Jakob....don't do it yet though, av danger in Schoengraben but in 2-3 weeks should be fine. It's quite a climb but a great loop, that's a 1/3 of the Arlberg Bike Marathon course coming out to do at end of August. Verwall should be clear now and well worth a ride, v safe.

Ha, just had a Facebook link with loads of photos showing Sport Pete on Fussgangerzone (next to Sport Alber) been demolished, looks like they are building a new one ready for next season, great shop for Icebreaker and Arcteryx gear! No messing!!

Just back from doing Verwall now. Still a couple of patches of snow on the uphill bit of the road just after you cross the river by the rasthaus, very slippy so had to get off an push.
Plenty of work going on in town already, Sport Pete and Seitenblick are both holes in the ground and looks like they're back to work on Billa too amongst other bits. People out playing golf again too.

Not looked over in that direction, and TBH I didn't realise they were replacing it. Hoping to cycle up to Gampen in the next few days if the weather's good so will have a look.

Here for another 2 weeks before heading back to the UK, back next Winter tho (got job sorted already, accom pretty much sorted too). A few people around, mostly just the locals (or those that aren't away on holiday at the moment). Would quite happily stay here over summer, but I've got a job back in the UK I'm going straight back to for the summer to save up some money.

The new lift is needed for the piste pussys.
More than ever Steisbachtal is being closed due to Avakanche danger.
Many piste pussys cant ride T Bars in two' s this i in efficient and causes
Big queues at the loading area.
Of course it will stop the carnage on Kandahar and allow the to descend with the Galzigbahn.
|
|
|
|
|

stanton, there is no even a piste to ski to Tanzbodenbahn from that side of the mountain? Only the route 4a.
How is that gonna help those "piste pussys" ? unless they design a piste there for a new season.
|
|
|
|
|
You know it makes sense.
|
With how often Happy Valley was closed/an itinerary this season, 4a was pretty much a piste so just needs a change of signage. But should deffo help, the carnage that you invariably see as soon as Happy Valley gets closed.

Sitter, that's seems the the only logical option. Change route 4a to piste back to new chair.
I can not remember much but alway thought that 4a route is a flat cat track anyway?

Yeah it is a flat cat track, not too dissimilar to blue 9. Not boarder friendly by a long shot!

Im not sure what your on about.
Thousands of folk from St Anton head over to Stuben, Lech Zurs etc everyday. When they come back in the afternoon quite often nowadays Steissbachtal in closed. They are directed along the cat track (on the north facing Backseite ) which crosses over the Tanzboden T Bar (near the loading ). The cat track is extended so you can just ski down Kandahar.
The problem is two fold for the Piste Pussys & also incompetent snowborders.
1. They cannot handle the T Bar's & the Tanzboden is quite steep & can be fog bound, many people fall off & this lift stops constantly late in the afternoon when big crowds have to use it. When they fall the only way for them is off piste or climb up , LOL LOL !
2. The Cat Track is extended (when Steisbachtal is closed ) to lead into Kandahar. Therefore a blue catrack ends in a steep black descent.
Consequently late in the afternoon when beginners, intermediates are tired from skiing allday they are confronted with Kandahar as the only way down. Anyone who seen this run in the afternoon can witness the carnage it can be quite amusing but also very dangerous.
By installing a comfortable chair for the Piste Pussys they can ascend safely then ski across to the Galzig & descend to town in the Galzigbahn.

stanton, and that's what I said. Surely if this cat track is to be such important for those beginners etc, or in fact the only way back in some circumstances, therefore should not be marked as off piste route, it should be marked as blue run.

Maybe you could consider trying to find a more polite turn of phrase? That just comes over as arrogant and gets in the way of whatever you're trying to say, even ignoring your English difficulties.
