Too early to say anything about Easter - but for Feb 18th you'll be perfectly fine. Cold air is coming, probably with snow, by EOW (Feb 10th). Les Gets and Morzine skiing was not ideal over the last few weeks, but still very much enjoyable.
If anything it's the sheer amount of people I'd be worried about.

Thanks, @patrick!. And that chart is very useful, thanks @kitenski. Although, studying it too much might result in you concluding that you should never go!

@frank_bough,
I’m always the voice of doom(realism?) on this thread. The snow on the Les Gets/Morzine side is, frankly, well below par for the time of year. Yes, what skiing there is, is fine, if you don’t mind skiing on artificial snow surrounded by grass. Have a proper look at the webcams. Many runs are closed and many lifts too. In addition to that there’s a lot of rain (and some snow later on) forecast towards the end of the week.
In contrast, the snow from Avoriaz eastwards(Chatel, Les Crosets etc) is great, and being higher they’ll benefit from more snow and less rain over the weekend and early next week.
If I was coming out on Feb 18th I would definitely avoid staying in Les Gets (unless I had a car) and stay in Morzine or even Avoriaz.

Yes of course if you have the choice. Well in that case I'd head to Val Tho. Or more likely somewhere in upper Valais to mitigate mid terms.

Forecasts seem to be increasing snowline for the first burst of precipitation this week leaving only a day or two of snow down to 1400 or so (Sunday?). Doesn’t look like Morzine is getting anything in the village for the foreseeable.
Skied down the front of pleney on Monday - an odd experience with green to the left and right!

I was in Les Gets last year when there was NO snow whatsoever, and everyone was packed into the crowds and crappy conditions in Avoriaz. Hence, cautious this year.

@frank_bough, zzz glass is always half empty , even though he never goes to LG, yet is often surprised by how much more snow it gets compared to morzine. Sure it's always a risk, he may be right, especially now without a decent base, but no one can seriously predict what conditions will be like in 2 weeks time.
Fwiw, I've had friends and family tootling around for the last 2 weeks and every one of them had a great time....decent piste cover and endless blue skies. I did a few days around Nyon, Chamossiere and Chery Nord reds and they were all perfectly fine. Heading out again now.
This weekend storm has been a long time coming, and while visible up to 2 weeks out, you couldn't tell whether the snowline would be closer to 1000 or 2000m. But now that we are only a few days away, it's looking very likely to be at the low end. I expect 10-20cm at valley level (1200), and 30+ higher up by mon/tues.
Beyond that there is a lot of noise as the southerly pattern shifts north into mid month, generally though the mean temps look close to average after a cold start to the week. Too far to know much, but personally not seeing any major issues in the outlook at the moment.
@zzz, sterling work as usual encouraging people to go anywhere but LG. Appreciated, but ideally you need a bigger reach as there are far too many people still coming here enjoying themselves....what are they thinking. And then there's the 20m EUR worth of new chalets gone up on my road in the last 12 months. Fools and their money eh

@polo, . I’ll have you know I skied in Les Gets a few days ago, on my way to lunch. It was fine and served a purpose.
As for the building boom. Bonkers.

@Roscoe, LG seems to have even more building going on than Morzine and Montriond.
We skied 10 days on the bounce up until Monday. Monday was Morzine/LG side and it was some of the best snow we had (and amazingly quiet, once we got away from the munchkin-fest on top of Pleney). The hoon down Ranfoilly and the red to Perrieres were both great fun.

It's just crazy. This is Chavannes side? With kids growing we no longer park up there so I don't see the new stuff, I just wish I could afford being one of these fools.

@zzz, and where was your lunch?
We have just been staying in a friend’s chalet near the lake and school in !es Gets. Lots of chalets being extended there since we sold ours five years ago. Any restrictions on extending that were in place when we were there seem to have been lifted, and the very strict size of building:size of plot seems to have gone out the door now.
Amazed by the amount of apartments still being built. Where are all the people meant to go…

More sunshine today, still scratchy in the shade but overall really good snow depth across the area. Lots of “snow farming” going on to protect the normal thin spots.
Big rescue on Swiss Wall this morning - looked a bad do with multiple pisteurs, 2x helicopters and the run shut for a long while.

Pee’ing it down in the valley now. Due to pass through overnight but doubt there’s much fresh snow up there except on the very top.

Loads of building around the Espace Diamant area too, even down in the Arly Valley. But it's not just about skiing, is it - these are sought after summer destinations too, lovely at most times of the year (unlike lots of places).

Obviously we enjoy Les Gets, but you're right, the area around Flumet has a lot to offer - and not just winter.

Snow line seems mixed across region overnight. Fresh from 1500m in some parts and rain to at least 1800 in others. Didn’t half hammer it down with rain in the valley overnight!!

@Dashed, Zore webcam looks as if there’s been at least some snow at c1500m. Same with Lindarets cameras.

Over this side in Morgins it was rain at village level 1350m. Looking up the hill to Foilleuse ~2000m there's no sign of any white in the trees either.

About 4” of wet cement from lindarets upwards. Terrible visibility in places and very sticky snow with on and off heavy rain / drizzle all morning.
Off to Aquariaz!

Thanks for the advice all, had a great time in the PDS. Although many runs were closed, there was more than enough to enjoy and piste conditions were fantastic considering the temps.

That’s grim - piste was closed for a reason no doubt.
6c in the valley this morning, heavy rain overnight and continues. Lots of snow loss compared to last few days, although pistes still plenty of depth.

I nearly did too this December during a pre opening weekend. Luckily the Swiss side was still closed so the idea of having to climb back up stopped me.

To be fair, its crap. Just big annoying icy moguls, and despite its reputation its not really that steep at all. One of those hyped pistes that aren't really worth the hype (Harikari in Mayrhofen springs to mind).

@patrick!, you might have discovered it was closed for another reason?
Thinking the wall might be fun in the the conditions shows a sadly remarkable lack of experience or knowledge.

No no, the lifts weren't running in Les Crosets m, Champery nor Chatel (or LG for that matter). We had a sandwich next to what looked like the emerging 10cm top of a chalet. When checking with maps/online pics I realised this was the restaurant at the col, under 2m of snow.

I agree, quickly learned from those with knowledge of the area, Swiss Wall seems one for the box tickers, many who I suspect not experienced enough to manage it safely, let alone to enjoy it. As a fairly confident intermediate, I never go near it.
In fact on our trip to Chatel 12th January skied 4 days and didn’t even go to Linga/Pre La Joux. Snow was so perfect stayed in Super Chatel, Chalet Neuf and over to Torgon and Chapelle D’Abondance/Cret Béni. None of which we’d skied before in 6 holidays to Chatel. Absolutely brilliant and so quiet
