Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

Bring floaty planks and you'll even get some off-piste on the Buzzard side of the Lecht, wind direction really favoured that side overnight! Machines have been working on the Grouse and Snowy Owl runs on the main side of the road, they are probably not far away from being able to open though cover narrow in where scoured somewhat by the wind higher up. Nursery slopes look in very good condition, impressive since they were green yesterday.

Piste Bashers have been out on CairnGorm packing down snow where it's stuck in useful places. Ciste Fairway is pretty much complete, but the wind direction meant not quite enough has stuck on the uptracks yet, but each shower and slow drifting are gradually improving things. A bit of a snow streamer has set up of the Moray Firth on the NE wind and is currently funneling quite frequent snowshowers into the Northern Cairngorms. NMM mesoscale model reckons a few more inches fresh overnight for CairnGorm and the Lecht.

Wait and see situation at CairnGorm, but the Lecht is scheduled for an 8.30am opening. Most of the road is now black and the snow gates are expected to open on the A939 at 8am as the ongoing drifting should ease up with winds forecast to fall light before tomorrow morning.

The 2012 Scottish Ski Season is go (again).... snowHead

If anyone is going from or passing though Dundee area and wants a good company and to share petrol expenses, get at me!Smile Im off for the rest of the week, so I will be gutted if I miss it. I used to be thumbing to Glenshee, but Aviemore is so far I cant take the chance.

A good afternoon at the Lecht today considering 2 days ago the hills were green. You might be thinking rock hoppers, but those who got the best of the day as far as the skiers go were those that rocked up with big wide floaty planks and were able to go anywhere on the Buzzard side of the hill!

^Sweet groomed fresh snow on the Eagle, top half can be skied off the Grouse Poma.

^Buzzard runs full width machine groomed fresh snow between the fences.

The link to the Eagle from the Grouse and the lower link back via the bottom of the Osprey to the Grouse Poma was giving a longer run of the Grouse Poma and the Eagle and links were being worked on by the machines in the afternoon, the Eagle uptrack looked fully complete and pisted, so it might be a goer too.

Good beginner areas with full width cover and all beginner lifts going, including Magic Carpet and Kestral Poma.

Met Office Outlook.

Tuesday
A bright day for most with sunny spells and occasional showers, the showers falling increasingly as snow above about 450m. Across the northern Cairngorms the showers may merge to give a longer spell of rain, sleet and snow. Freshening northerly winds. Freezing level around 600m.

Wednesday
Sunshine and showers, again the showers falling increasingly as snow above about 450m. The showers most frequent in the north at first but developing more widely through the morning. Lying snow drifting in the strong to gale force northerly winds. Freezing level around 600m.

Thursday
A bright day with sunny spells and occasional showers, with snow increasingly expected above 450m. Lying snow likely to drift although the strong northwesterly winds will ease. Freezing level around 600m.

Ricklovesthepowder, Thought this was a better place to post the following - Don't know that part of the country very well but have been to Loch Katrine and it is a lovely area, also the perfect place for a trip to Glencoe. Tried to find a link for Glenturret Distillery between Comrie and Crieff which is closer to where you are staying and found this site http://www.scotlandwhisky.com/distilleries/highlands/Grouse
and if you haven't already found it this site for general information on the area http://www.trossachs.co.uk.

Encouraging forecast for the week ahead. Fingers and toes crossed! With a consolidated base now the Ciste Fairway will give some good if limited sport with a covering of fresh and there is also quite deep snow on the far skiers right of the Ciste Bowl and on the Ptarmigan Ridge, so not much additional snow could get the top T-bars on as well as the West Wall Poma. Snow line should gradually come back down the mountain during the week, but best will be up top where there is now something of a base, at least earlier in the week.

Sadly the Lecht being lower only has patches left, but the ground is cooler now so it could bounce back too if the snow level is low enough - as we saw last Wednesday, you don't need much depth to have good surface conditions and good sport on offer at the Lecht.

It was snowing to quite low level in the central belt this morning and still is now. Promising for good snow falling in the mountains, though from radar at the moment the majority of the snow is confined to the central belt. Webcams for glencoe and cairngorm are showing white stuff.

mountainaddict, takes a decent amount of snow to fill things in and if snow falls without wind it can look good cosmetically, but not be very deep.

....it can look good cosmetically, but not be very deep
As long as it's not like Cairngorm's infamous 'cosmetic cover' one early season a few years ago eh? ie. the time the mountain was seemingly covered in deep snow from summit to car park but they didn't open 'cos it was only cosmetic.... Sad. I seem to recall that caused outrage on Winterhighland!

Anyway, looking increasingly like Mrs MA, Bergmeister and Mrs B will be heading up on Saturday night - with touring kit to cover all eventualities Smile.

OK it isn't the Alps but it was sunny and cold and a lot of people seemed to be enjoying themselves today at Cairngorm. The snow was good and they had managed to
get the Ciste and Ptarmigan tows open, kept trying to snow all day even in Aviemore.
