endlessride, awesome pics. Where were these taken? (If you don't mind giving away your secrets) |
it's no secret, it's "the fornet" just don't go there without shovel, probe, transceiver and knowledge of how to travel in unsecured environments. Unlike the boarders who followed us in and caught us up with a "do you know where you are going"!

Hows it looking out there? I now have a spare afternoon in Geneva Wed and was thinking of popping over to Les Gets, how busy is it?? Was thinking of going somewhere a little closer to Geneva, but it looks like a possibility of rain low down Wednesday.

Hopefully no-one minds if I duplicate this post here, just thought Morzine/Avoriaz folk might be reading!
Ive booked a course for off piste lessons next week in Morzine/avoriaz, was wondering if anyone else would like to join? I desperately want to get the full three days but unless the group is filled with three other people I am going to have to spend the money on only one or maybe two private lessons. The idea of the clinic is for people who are learning to go offpiste. I have had two private lessons myself previously and that is it. So...anyone out there and fancy joining in??
6 hours course 9.30-11.30 on 24th and 12.15-2.15pm on 25th and 26th, cost is 135 euros. (pretty good deal I would have thought!) With a British rn company calledavoriaz alpine ski school.
Come and join me....you know you want to!

A question for the locals. Is there a curling rink in Morzine or thereabouts? OH is hankering for some granite action when we get over at Easter...

There is a large indoor and a small outdoor rink in Morzine, so they may offer Curling

Haven't manged to post updates this week but here goes. Sunday to Wednesday mostly sunny with good snow. Rain overnight Wed/Thurs at village level made the lower slopes a bit sticky yesterday. OK above about 1600m with a dusting of fesh snow. Snowed
Thu/Fri and the slpes were pretty quiet this morning with poor visibility but no queues. Snowing steadily at the momentand settling on the roads in the village. Tomorrow should be good if it brightens up as forecast.
Some of the runs a bit bare (Chermillon from top of Morclan pretty bad) but everything very skiable.

It was hammering down with rain all day in Geneva today, so I imagine there should be loads of fresh snow in the PdS

Snow has stopped now though it is still overcast with cloud base down to around 1800m. 2-3 inches of fresh snow at village level with the usual chaos on the roads (French desperate to escape before the Parisiens arrive, Brits who forget that summer tyres don't work - even on 4x4s). If the forecast is right (sun in the morning) it could be a good day on the slopes!

andyph, we used to take clients curling. Mind you that was 1988 so the stones may well have become foundation slabs by now...

Steady light snow and no wind in Chatel at the moment. At least 4 inches at Petit Chatel (1300m). Off out around Barbossine shortly before heading home tonight. I'll report back later.

Just cleared 30cm of snow off the drives and paths of Champery! Its very light too The sun is intermittantly popping its head out, although still the odd flake falling! More forecast today so should be a cracking weekend!

Village was clogged with traffic this afternoon but not as bad as it has been some years. As well as the Parisians it is also Dutch half-term (don't be too rude about them I'm married to one!). The good news is that the snow has helped a lot. Poor visibility until around 14.00 when there was a bit of sun. The piste conditions are pretty good and there were a few people making the most of the fresh stuff though the chequered flags were up and the off-piste skiers didn't seem at all concerned about whole slopes detaching where they had got some sun.
I'm sure those out there now will have a good week. That's it for me this trip. Now in Besancon having a beer before we head home tomorrow. Back out 6 March for the lads' trip so leave some snow for then.

The Foehn is blowing strongly which means, forecast is cloudy/snow drizzle to anywhere from 1000m to 1400m. Still enough snow down at 850m to build an Igloo today.

Light dusting of snow overnight and minus 3 at 1000m at 8.15am ish. 30 kmh winds gusting upwards and hint of warm foehn already......Could be a little soft later in the day I fear!

Am heading to les gets area end of the week. booked last minute encouraged by what were sounding like excellent conditions. Weather forecasts now seem to be painting a disaster, 8oC and torrential rain?!?! ... but I dont know the area and how that translates? Any experts? Should I bring my swimming costume?

fraccy, forecasts from whom?
Chamonix Meteo (best for the French side of the PDS) aren't making any predictions beyond Sunday (http://chamonix-meteo.com/bul/metPreEveEn.php) and only have any confidence as far as Wednesday.
There's heaps of snow and even if it is unusually mild (a blessed relief cos it's been frickin baltic) - you may prefer to ride above the snowlone - hence Avoriaz - but the slopes should (will) be fine.

Useful link there thanks!
I'm probably being a bit precious about it, first time after wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy too long away from a pair of skis
I've been looking at J2Ski (mainly because its first hit from googling les gets forecast), though all the forecasts seemed to indicate the slopes were about to be vaporised by some sort of death ray from outer space.
Your view much appreciated, thanks.
