What SHOULD ice crash be? Skaters throwing themselves down an ice ski cross track track in the middle of town. Think ice hockey meets roller ball.
What WAS ice crash? Someone failing to build an ice track through town so the skaters had to literary stop, toe-step, toe-step, toe-step, skate 20m, fall.

Rented Cham 97 skis for the day today, great fun in the powder compared to my normal 76mm piste skis. Anyone else catch the double sun halo today, with sun dogs? Beautiful!

Arrived in Les Prodains after delays to light snow, soon got heavier now about 7cm fresh at 1100 meters. Can't see Avoriaz.
Looking forward to tomorrow

Did the Swiss part of the loop yesterday and quite surprised that they don't seem to have had all the snow that's called from Les Gets to Avoriaz. They even had the snow makers running down in Les Crosets and Morgins. That's not to suggest they haven't had any, everything was white but skiing over from Morzine there was a clue of cm of powder on the pistes but more a harder base on the Swiss side.
Things started to get a little icy after 1 with that horrible combination of low visibility and a random mix of ice and powder patches...though the tired legs from nailing it all day may have made it feel worse than it was

@Sneachta2013, converted boarder, never going back. Off piste is great, though not straying more than 50m from piste. Been bombing down both sides of the Ranfoilly, anyone doing likewise watch out for a 2m wide hole towards bottom on left. Will upload a pic of my Scottish mate in it tomorrow

Hi
I'm heading out next Saturday for a week with the family. Does anybody know if I buy a family 6 day pass for Morzine / Le Gets (you get a 10% discount apparently if you are a family of four) can I upgrade on a day to day basis for a full PDS pass? i.e. just pay an additional amount for the day we want to go. Don't really want to pay the extra for PDS for the fully week as we may only head that way a couple of times.
Also. We stay in apartment in Nyon which is just under the Nyon cable car which I think is running ok. However, I'm not sure if the piste that rune back down to the car park under the Nyon cable is open, anybody know?
Thanks.

@Jcosh, you can upgrade on a daily basis, can't remember how much extra, 30 eur I think, I need to do it next week too
Went up Chamossiere and Pointe de Nyon today, bit cloudy up at 2000m but some of the best powder ever on the way down, especially the bottom section of Cham on the right and the black run down the middle of Nyon.
Here's the pic from yesterday over in Les Gets when my mate hit a big hole and popped right out of his ski's

@Jcosh, we skied close by the run down to Nyon this morning and I don't recall seeing anything saying it was closed. There were certainly barriers up a few days ago and only last Monday or Tuesday we walked our dog from the car park near the bottom of the gondola and it was all quite green there at the time, but its all changed now so you should be ok.

I arrive in Morzine on Tuesday for the Inter Livery Championships...I have my eyes on the prize(s)!
As team captain it is my way or the other way (!) and we have a full training day on Thursday with a race coach....seeing that most of my team are in their 50's and 60's that should be interesting!
A Slalom on Pleney under lights on Thursday I believe and a GS at Nyon on Friday
I've never been before...so a quick question:
What ski pass do I need to access the Nyon Telepherique?
Just Morzine? Morzine & Les Gets? Whole PDS?
Thanks in advance...

@rungsp, Morzine/Les Gets should be fine. I didn't know that there was a straight Morzine one. You won't need whole PDS.

Could be wrong but I see that Morzine snow depths are about the same as they were last year - pretty decent considering this season started a month later than usual, and a week later than last year! Im out in Morzine 2nd week of march and with my trip to the Via Lattea next week looking limited I really hope Morzine will have a lot of the fresh stuff like it does this week.

@Nadenoodlee, certainly is freezing it was minus 15.5C when I got up this morning and rock hard for the OH and dog doing the first walk. We have been to Roc d'Enfer circuit for the first time this season, really cold there and snow blowing all the way round so making for some interesting corners, - rock hard icy, big soft heaps, rubbly stuff, you name it all there. But very quiet so a delight.

@Pamski, Roc d'Enfer circuit + Ice = Worst nightmare for novice boarder. Oh yeah, and the compulsory massive drag lift to even get there. Not the best memories, but will have to try it again with snow on it.

@langball, not really ice, sorry bad words from me, rock hard and very slippy perhaps. I am always ok as tend to ski behind my OH so I watch him and just go somewhere else!
There is now the new chair lift from the top of the gondola and the long drags have been removed at Grande Terche. Drag lift is still there near the Torchon refuge/café but that is not very long.

I did the Roc D'enfer circuit yesterday, wish I had spent more time with runs under Torchon and Graydon chairs as the circuit itself wasn't great, narrow and hard. As it was a Sunday there were some seriously good French teenagers about. A couple of kids came down directly underneath the Torchon chair which is very steep and rocky at the top.
day off today, went for a walk along the river to Montriond.

Conditions today were great, the pistes lower down are a bit hard packed and the light was very flat all day but what an amazing ski area. The trees are all heaving under the weight of snow and the snow cannons have been going non stop for the last couple of days. They aren't even needed at this point higher up. I could happily come back here every year if it's like this, first time in Pds.

Finally managed to book pds. Hardly any hotels left so we are staying in la Chatel. Beautiful hotel and resort looks v picturesque. Just a quick one. We get a shuttle out of the hotel but could we get this over to avoriaz or does it only go Chatel and we'd have to ski over to avoriaz. Thanks

@Evan Roberts[/agree, those runs at Torchon and Graydon were very nice, the latter part of the circuit not so good.
[b]@Jon Ford, I am sure you will need to ski over to Avoriaz. I think it would be a long drive round otherwise.

@Jon Ford, Have a look at a map bearing in mind where the snow will be. Only to Chatel and have to ski to Avoriaz. (There are summer tracks/roads that are passable, but not in winter).

@Jon Ford, Pre La Joux to Avoriaz is well under an hour on skis. Two fast chairs followed by a run then one fast chair and you're there.
Why the need to head for Avoriaz? Are you meeting others there?

No. Just want to ski avoriaz as well as Chatel. Looking at piste map there seems plenty to keep us occupied anyway, but be nice to see avoriaz. Not too bothered about morzine.

Interesting day today. Did the circuit from Avoriaz via Chatel to Morgins and Croesets. Generally good conditions even to lower slopes, visibility varying from reasonable to absolutely pants. Top of Avoriaz was about 10 metres vis - that was a very long short run!
Home run from Avoriaz to Prodains was challenging - better skiers than me were struggling.
Can thoroughly recommend the Les Lans hotel in Prodains honestly the best welcome and food I have had in 20+ years of skiing

Avoriaz shrouded in fog all day so headed to Les Gets via Morzine where we had a mix of Sun and cloud with reasonable visibility.
Impressed with Les Gets in general and snowy in Ranfolly bowl excellent.
Cloud and then thick fog moved in during afternoon and lower snow became pretty heavy - board at the bottom of Les Gets showed +5!
Returned to Morzine vie Nyon in every denser fog and graupel. Lower Into Morzine wet and VERY worn in places.
Now snowing lightly in Prodains.
Tomorrows forecast looks better....
