Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

About 50/60 cm in Colfosco today.

Should be good tomorrow if Bergfex has the forecast correct.

Hi all dolomites experts! Great to see the fresh snow arriving. I will be there in 3 weeks time and was wondering if anyone can recommend a reputable boot fitter to do some modifications to my boots, (which have been giving me a little pain since I upgraded to a titanium ankle a couple of season back)?

Thanks @Snow&skifan, enjoy! I might pull the trigger on Corvara today actually. Am I right in thinking that the Dolomites are generally drier and thus if conditions are good presently, we should be OK come w/c March 16th?

We also left San Cassiano this morning and it was so beautiful! We drove via Corvara and Arraba to Venice through the most spectacular scenery, even though we had to put the snowsocks on in a layby. Probs took about 30 mins longer than a normal day. Those arriving today have more than enough snow to have some fun!!

That is what we hope and expect. We are out there for another week 16 - 24 March.
Check whether you might be entitled to a free day if you are out that week. It depends (I think) on whether your accommodation provider takes part in the scheme which used to be called "super sun" but might have a different name. basically 7 nights accomodation pay for 6. 6 day lift pass pay for 5. Same with ski rental and instruction I think

Just arrived in Verona today, planning to start my first day on Monday, the forecast shows it’ll be “raining” for all the three days, and I’m wondering if it’ll be a good idea to still buy the superski in this weather condition? My original plan was to stay only in Arabba but the Marmolada lifts to the highest mountain are closed today, and Stellaronda was closed yesterday due to heavy snow. And if I want the online discount I need to decide today… any suggestions welcome! Btw the hotel is in passo fedaia if this info helps. Thanks!!

@agile, Seems more useful to get the full pass, gives you more options and doesn’t cost much more. The only precipitation on altabadia website is sleet on Monday so I’d take 3 days rain with a pinch of salt, may well be referring to the lowest point in the valley

Corvara experts …. please would you advise me on confidence building pistes for my wife when she joins me skiing tomorrow. She’s gradually lost confidence over the years, not due to any accident, more a case of refusing tuition, a lack of fitness and mental demons, and she doesn’t like cat-tracks!

@Snow&skifan, Corvara is the perfect destination for your wife. You can head to Colfosco and ski the very gentle blues there for a bit, get some confidence back. Then head to Alta Badia which is essentially all wide blues other than the Gran Risa WC run, the accompanying red and the red down to San Cassiano. Very few cat tracks in these areas. Gentle and as wide as the Clyde.

Just brief look at the forecast models and it looks like March in Dolomites will be awesome !!!

What I am seeing is fair amount of snow next weekend, some top ups week thereafter and then sunshine !!!

Indeed it will be.

Snowy and cold enough for the lads to fire up the snowmaking again, right up to the the 6th of March, then blue skies and quite slopes for 2 weeks. snowHead

It's not unknown, I'm sure similar happened in 2014 and again a couple of years ago too.

Just call me Quasimodo. wink

@Peter S, most unusual indeed. But if we could keep up the snowfall for a week or so longer before returning to prolonged cool but clear blue dry skies, that would be very much appreciated.

On my own as a Dolomites newbie I’ve skied to San Cassiano, blue run 11 was a dream warmer upper.

Mountains temps around 0c, lightly snowing, great visibility and so far respectful piste users.

So lucky to come after the snow, on the lower slopes I can feel rock hard ice under the fluffy stuff.

Yes, from the main ski area in Corvara where a lot of the lifts meet you just take the Borest gondola which takes you right to Colfosco, when you get off the gondola then ski down a few metres to the left and get on the Sodlisia chair which takes you to the top of a very wide gentle sloping blue run, ideal for getting back confidence!

P.S as you get off the top of the Sodlisia chair in Colfosco on the right hand side is the Mathiaskeller restaurant, highly recommended for a coffee/hot chocolate stop or lunch. Very Happy

Thanks both.

I solo skied Colfosco this afternoon to check it out, the widest gentlest blues I’ve seen since Courchevel 1850 and the US.

The Borest Gondola …. I’ve not seen that before, in essence linking two villages of similar altitude and not across a ravine. Very useful.

In my estimation, it looks like Corvara village had 9” of snow, the peaks 15”.

Do they sometimes not piste bash every blue and red every night on Corvara’s main mountain? By mid morning long stretches of some were already huge soft moguls and valleys, lots of users going through a mini hell. Or had the nervous skiers ‘ruined’ it already? That’s normally an afternoon thing.

From memory 23, 5B and the start of the long blue home run to Corvara.

@Snow&skifan, My experience is that they are very good at pistes bashing it's probably just because it's new snow that the moguls are forming a bit more quickly.

After your wife has hopefully got her confidence back on the wide gentle blue slope under the Sodlisia chair you can then move to the Edelweiss side valley in Colfosco (the Colfosco gondola no.46 starts from just a few metres away from the exit of the Borest gondola in Colfosco). When you get off the Colfosco gondola you ski down to the right just a few metres and take the new 6 person Stella Alpina no 49 chair up to the top of the Edelweiss valley where there's another wide gentle blue. Very Happy

@Snow&skifan, if your wife wants similar company in Colfosco we have several people in our group who will be looping around the blues there including those mentioned by Alastair above. Or even just to meet and chat with cappuccino.

Also at the top of Sodlisia chair you can go left to get to Plans - Frara gondola. Take that only to mid station and it is a nice easy run back down to base station. Can also take it all the easy to top for lunch at Jimmy's hutte then download back again. Not sure if you can exit at mid station on download.

Hi all. I woke up in Bolzano and will be shortly taking the bus to the Suisi Cabanova. From there I’ll ski over to Val di Fazza to my first rifugio. I’ll let you know how the conditions are. I’m a bit concerned because I’m supposed to be staying the night at the Lagazuoi and Averau rifugios Tuesday and Wednesday nights. However, the road from Armentarola to the Lagazuoi bubble remains closed. I can’t get there from the Civetta area either because despite the bus running to the Fedare lift, that lift and numerous others remain closed. Wish me luck!

Very tempted by Alta Badia for w/c March 16th. Forecast looks very good indeed, but this would be our first trip. Corvara looks ideal as my wife likes gentle slopes. Anybody stayed in TH CORVARA GREIF HOTEL? I fancy a package, and this is the only hotel Crystal offer.

You can ski to the lovely blues in Corvara very easily from either Selva or Arabba (if that gives you more accommodation options).

From Selva you get a 5km blue warm up. The way back involves a couple of short south facing reds that can get bumpy. Corvara is perfect for blues.

@Alchemist, there may be a quicker way but you can ski over to marmolada, or the resort at bottom malga something, then bus or taxi to alleghe, ski down to the resort on other side of alleghe (is it pescul?) Then bus or taxi over to access cinque torre area and ski over to lagazuoi lift

Sounds a lot but it's very doable

That said if as much snow as predicted falls in next 48 hours there may be closures
