Conditions all over are boiler plate, if you are on a board it's terrifying. Super M best chance of it softening up in Avoriaz.
Unfortunately it's looking like another poor season with no snow on the horizon

Hmm, it's been changing its mind a lot recently, but 06z GFS (GFS, control AND average ) is looking quite optimistic from 6 Feb.
It's a bit far out, ok, but it's far too early to call the season.

Mt. Chery wasn't busy besides some kids races, although it was a strange mix/progression of hard/icy/mushy, depending on the place and time.

Agree that Mt Chery busy with kids racing today, and around the Belvedere. We dropped in there for coffee and bumped into some of our ex neighbours from when we lived in LG - caught up with a bit of news. The Marmotte down the back was still hard at the top at 12.
Waiting for our younger bit of the family to get back from Ardent parking so we will hear all about it, only heard so. far it was hard packed snow. They took us to the Paika for lunch yesterday which was really good sitting on the terrace in the sun. The bottom of the Melezes is closed at the moment, being saved I think for some racing, so all piling down the ‘easier’ blue, which was in quite a state yesterday at midday.
Looks like a week of sunshine.

Didn't get to ski this morning but out this afternoon with the inlaws. It was loosening up a bit in the Les Gets bowl where the sun had been on it - still scrapey ice in the shade. Yeti and Myrtilles closed due to poor condition, Eglantine reserved for a competition and Mélèze shut half way down. Will be interesting to see what they do for the competition on Thurs.
Headed over to Chamossiere for a blast down Arbis for something other than a blue. Icy in the shade and slushy in the sun. Tetras dangerously icy to get there.
However, very much like spring skiing, much more fun than I thought it would be when I arrived yesterday to a completely green centre ville, and lovely sunny après.
Plenty of base on any run with snowmaking, should easily last til the next dump in most places.

So what you’re saying is hit beers in the evening, sleep in a little then head out for 11am start, skip lunch then hit the beers again before it gets too slushy?

Sounds like a normal ski day to me, except you missed the couple of beers at "lunch" time
Today we were skiing superChatel /Chalet Neuf, where conditions were pretty good. But as per the quote, we got out around 1130 or so, b which time things had had the chance to soften up a bit.
The one bad point of the day was getting stuck coming done the Corbeau chair which broke down for the best part of an hour. Took pity on a group of Brits I'd chatted to earlier who were then facing multiple bus trips to get back to Chatel (although TBF they could just about have taken the lift back up again, assuming the drag back to Chalet Neuf would have stayed open, but none of them felt inclined to trust it at that point) so got the Landy out to take them back over the col. Couple of beers in the Avalanche later, all was good with the world.

Saturday in neighbourhood (Sommand) but I believe the conditions where the same as in LG, i.e. icy. Lots more of fun and the usual amazing views once on the Praz de Lys side.
Over to LG side on Sunday, glad we now get there early for the race on Chéry and avoided heavy weekend traffic!
It's still possible to ski down to Perrières but as noted above its bottom part will be reserved for the Junior World Ski championship this week.
How do people get to La Paika without the piste?

We skied down to Perrieres yesterday, there's a narrow little path forged to the side of the race piste and we nearly ended up on the grass - there isn't much room to turn if you're not expecting it!
Despite the snow, had a good day yesterday on the Morzine/Les Gets side - heavy at times, but not as bad as the scraped snow up around Avoriaz.
The whole place just looks like April, which is unfortunate.

@patrick!, as I said above we got to La Paika ok on Saturday down the closed Vorosses piste. Out after lunch through the trees and onto Melezes at piste marker 12.
We went back to Mt Chery this morning and it was so quiet after yesterday. Delicious salad for lunch over at the Bar d’Encrenaz.

Last full day in Avoriaz tomorrow.
After a couple of days of scrapey ice, spread our wings to Morzine and Les Gets today.
Good choice, conditions round Ranfoilly Express were ‘good’ and we had some enjoyable runs.
So… tomorrow, feel we should explore the Swiss side/Chatel.. but also don’t want to risk a scrapey ice fest for our last day.
Anyone been over to Chatel today and persuade me it’s ok?
Thanks!

@Richie_S, Chatel has DH races at Linga tomorrow and best to avoid that section altogether. You will need to get a bus from bottom of Pre La Joux to Châtel village if you wanted to explore Super Châtel / Chalet Neuf areas. You can get to Morgins in that direction and scoot back to Les Crosets and Avoriaz.

I have a lift pass purchase conundrum/query. I need to buy passes for 4 people, but 3 of us need 7 day passes so we can ski the first Saturday, and 1 only needs a 6 day pass from the Sunday. To get the Tribu 10% discount I think I have to buy 4 or more passes of the same duration, with the same start date?
If I buy 4 6 day passes from the Sunday, getting the 10% discount, and one single day pass for the first Saturday, can I then buy the other 2 day passes for the first Saurday with the 'suns' I already have, and the 'suns' that purchase will have earned me? Or do they have to be put on the cards in the order they are going to be used?
Not sure if I'm making myself clear..

@karin, have you got spare cards? If so you could buy the 4x6 on 4 cards and then use “suns” on spare cards.
Where are you staying? Chatel Espace Liberté is v. cheap for a Saturday. Maybe similar offers elsewhere

Correction, I've just found 7 more in the stash of old lift pass cards! However, I seem to think they changed the standard a few years back, and some of these are pretty old, so may not work. Def worth a try to see if the system recognises the numbers though

My PDS card must be 10 years old. Gradually we've had to replace others (sometimes newer ones) but mine keeps on going!

Thanks for the guidance on the PDS circuit further up the thread. Due to the snow conditions and keeping most of our mixed ability group together we decided not to attempt it this time round.
Had a great time though based in Avoriaz and popping into Switzerland and over towards Chatel. Didn’t feel like January at all with the blue sky and warmth. Morzine and Les Gets looking rather sad compared to this time last year. Hopefully colder weather and snow isn’t too far away.

Some of ours from more than twenty years ago still work, from back in the days when you used to accumulate points on them. As long as you've got a recognisable number on them they should be OK, but in any case the online purchase will validate the number before payment so it's simple enough to check them well in advance.
I've thrown a few away because they had a plastic covering which the numbers were printed on, which had started to peel off, but not, I think, because they were no longer supported.

Heading out tomorrow for a long weekend. For those currently there, my plan is to not bother setting foot out of the house until about 10am, then either hit Mr Chery first or the runs serviced by Grains D’or, then later on, maybe after midday/1pm the runs serviced by Nauchets/Ranfoilly. Does that sounds like a plan to get the nicest conditions? I dread to think what Tulip is like at the top though, it’s normally icy in even the best conditions!
Also, what is the run home like at the moment? Or am I better off downloading from the Grand Cry?

@Timmycb5, we came down the Tulipe on Saturday about 10 with grand daughters, and their parents, and we stopped for coffee halfway down at the Wedzet, and didn’t go up again. There were some pretty out of control people around then. At the moment you can’t ski down the bottom of the Melezes as there are ski races there on Thursday, so all set up with lights down each side. Well today at about 2 the Melezes was closed from the top, after going up the Grains d’Or. Hopefully it might be fully open once more by Friday. I came down the red egg from the Chavannes today as with a more or less non skiing friend but her husband and my OH skied down a bit later and it was fine, they cut off to come home a bit below the lake, and we ski the bottom bit in the morning to access the Chavannes Express.
That kept stopping today at about 9.30 but eventually got us to the top where I was nearly taken out by a young man who was on the right side and skied across my OHs skis and collided with me and we ended up skiing down towards the fencing together. I did tell him that if he was on the right it was not a good idea to ski right across everyone to the left. He was with a bunch who had pushed and shoved to get on and looked as if they were in a ski club, so he was probably out to terrorise a granny.

I've just tried recharging mine for my trip. The oldest card is from 2013 and now none of them work. I emailed sagets and they've responded saying that they are all out of date.
Bloody annoying as I will now have to go to the kiosk when I get there to pick up now ones, and again when I go with the family later in the year.

I’m now thinking get the 6 man up Gentiane early and “get my eye in” on the white cross, then either ski or download and get the train over and spend the day on Mt Chery. IIRC the main restaurant is now closed there. Is there anywhere else open to eat/drink there?

@Timmycb5, the Belvedere bar and snackbar by the top of the gondola which is a real sun trap is open and there is a restaurant there too, we only have coffee or a drink. Down the other side by the bottom of the chair lift is the Chanterelle and the little snack place, the Grignottes (sp?) where we had little omelettes on Sunday and across the car park is the Bar d’Encrenaz which has a larger menu than we remember, and lunch was enjoyed yesterday.

Home run is absolutely fine in Les Gets - snow cannons have put a good base down and the piste bashers were out last night keeping it well maintained. It's getting a bit choppy by the afternoon on the last bit above the lift stations, but if you turn right before the last drop and come down the Apres Bar side it's in surprisingly good nick.

Looking at the Chavannes plateau can now and it looks like 4 man and 6 man have plenty of empty/half full lifts. Having experienced Les Gets during Paris/UK half term, that’s deserted in my book
