David E Goldsmith, Thanks for the link, snowing at over 2500m on Mont Blanc today, hope all is OK in Lewes

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Boredsurfing, thanks for that. I wonder if it was snowing today at the Great St Bernard Hospice (2469m), which was the highest inhabited place in Europe in the mid 19th century. I'm taking an interest in that place, because C19th travellers were fascinated with the place. The monks kept weather records there and, of course, their knowledge of mountain and avalanche rescue (not to mention simply providing refuge for those on foot in the perils of winter up there) was probably the best in the world.

It's interesting how skiers always expect things to be deeper. My voice was deeper last winter. Then there was a thaw (along with my genitalia being swept away by an avalanche). |
A salient warning against the inappropriate positioning and overly tight tying of Avalanche cords.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

Due to the unique way the BBC is funded, probably not Sh's, although I will check the T's and C's

I like the windy sound effects in the background...

The Beeb can't seem to put out a single programme nowadays without sound effects or annoying/inappropriate background music. Drives me crazy. The worst example I've heard recently was on a play about Cardinal Newman (bloody awful play, actually) which had some Elgar in the background but it kept getting stuck on one single note, which just kept going on and on, like a banshee: I had to switch off, it was doing my head in.
/rant.

You did not miss anything. Homosexual agitprop. Typical BBC rubbish.

As a matter of interest does anyone know if this is available to listen to on the net. I have been on my hols and it appears no longer to be on iplayer.
