A beautiful day on the mountain today! Actually got to ski - who is responsible for the big bumps at the bottom of Silverado?

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

Had a blast. I guess SB got 10" or so last night. Squaw got close to that...maybe?
Too bad I'm stuck @ DMV in carsoncity.

Just got back from a long weekend at Tahoe, staying at Tahoe City on north shore. Here's thoughts:
Alpine meadows - nice hill, arrived with 8 inches new, but was a little heavy. Not busy. Some nice terrain in bowls, and like at Alta, traversing paid dividends.
Squaw - quite epic. One of steepest places I've ever skied, with huge amounts of double-black diamon terrain on KT-22, Silverado and the two triples near the big hotel. They have groomers down ridges, and seriously gnarly stuff underneath lifts. 6 inches pow on 1st day, and a couple on 2nd, so snow was in great condition. Would love to spend a week or three here.
Sugar Bowl - not a huge place, but lots or terrain variety and some good steeps around. They get a lot of snow here, and everywhere that was out of teh sun was in excellent shape. Preferred to Alpine Meadows.
Must hit south shore next time. Pics at:

3snowboards, loving your work. I'm working in the Bay area this week, hoping to head up to Tahoe at the weekend. How much road chaos is likely given Friday's forecast? and how long do they normally take to get things open again?

brian, that could be asked of here in Scotland as well, though 6ft is only likely on the Link Road on CairnGorm! This time last year I was getting ready to head off to Tahoe for 10 days, can't believe a year has gone already. However, I think I'd be kicking myself if I was booked on a holiday next week this year!!

You know it makes sense.

The Hwys dept are really good at keeping things cleared.
I dont really see any one event closing things, just possibly slowing things down a bit.
I would leave very early or very late to avoid much of the carnage.

The great conditions continue.
Avi conditions were issues last week but things have consolidated nicely to less then moderate.
Many resorts have reported more then 12" in the last 24 hours with more of the same forecast for the next 24hours.
Temps into the long term are forecast to be normal to below normal with no major ridging/warming trends.
I will be able to ride thurs-fri-sat next week and things are looking so prime.
I promise a pic or two in my next post.

The conditions are sickter
3+ feets in the last week combined with below average temp = great spring conditions.
Most resorts still have 10-15 foot bases.
That is all.

Some of this weeks best conditions on planet earth (correct me if I'm wrong) are going off between Tahoe and Mammoth.
Mammoth reported 24-30 inches on Apr 1-2 with a base of 120-160" and is expected to share with us the storm going down today/tonite (favoring tahoe more though).
Kirkwood reporting:
8-10" in the last 48 hours. 33-43" in the last 7 days.
120-177" base.
Alpine meadows reporting:
1-2" in last 24 hours.
140" base.
Squaw valley reporting:
14" in last 48 hours.
120-140" base.
Heavenly valley reporting:
A trace last 24 hours.
8" in the last 48 hours
24-31" in the last 7 days.
77-110" base.
Sugarbowl reporting:
6-13" in last 48 hours.
