Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

rayscoops, I'm staying here until mid-April, at the end of the day the glacier stays open until end of April. Most of the current plans are to stay open until end-March, mid-April for all areas. This week looks bad ( 'cos of half-term) , then next 2 weeks should be quiet ( but we need more snow for 'Good' conditions ... Bit Hard at the moment. Easter will also be a 'busy' long weekend but not the weeks around it apparently , so loads of choice .... I think I would be tempted to look at mid-end-March , early-April ..... then I'd get a couple of provisional bookings in hotels for you. ( I'm in Wales 5th April) , and if conditions were 'poor' just go elsewhere from Geneva .... although the Glacier has 25kms plus in its own right so a great fallback.

Agenterre, sounds a good idea, after doing loads of the mega resorts I really fancy some of the smaller, quieter ones, I had a weekend flying in to Innsbruck recently and went to St Anton on the Saturday and Mutters (Innsbruck) on the Sunday, expecting St Anton to be quiet on a 'change-over' day and Innsbruck to be busy at a local (5 km away) resort on a 'family' Sunday, but it was the other way round, St Anton was so busy you could hardly board and Mutters was quiet until lunch time.

I hadn’t posted for a long time – mainly because I haven’t been here for nearly 4 weeks in total. Mind you a week of that I was skiing in Wengen.

Suffice to say we are currently enjoying some of the best conditions of the season.

The shame being that some areas are beginning to close and all will be shut within 10 days with the exception of the Glacier… and that’s a 20 minute drive away so may be little more from me here.

They say a Picture is worth a 1000 words so I thought I’d just post a few photos from the last few days.

The first was Thursday iirc taken from the house showing that even at 1000m there is no shortage of snow.

Next one is looking over to Schonried.

Fresh tracks on the first day of ‘The Dump’ … unbelievably mine on Eggli!

..but it was just a stunning day !

Eggli over to Schonried..

The next ones ar all this morning taken in the semi-dusk about 0645 after the steps had been cleaned. Towards Rougemont :-

The river with the Eglli slopes in the background
The Chalet with the trees behind :- and the view over towards Saanen again ..

Suffice to say we seem to have another 15 cms minimum again last night and it’s still snowing!

Cost of Living Why are liquids so expensive in Swiss?

That simply has to be the best few days skiing ever.

The weather itself has been variable .. as it just seems to have kept snowing for the week. In terms of depth there is definitely more at 1000m than there has been all winter. This isn’t going to last though and rain on Sunday – allied to the temperatures rising will soon destroy what is left at the lowest levels.

Suffice to say we are currently enjoying some of the best conditions of the season.

The shame being that some areas are beginning to close and all will be shut within 10 days with the exception of the Glacier… and that’s a 15 minute drive away so may be little more from me here.

As of today only Schonried/Saanenmoser and the Glacier ( which apart from one 14km Black run is rather boring and flat unless you do serious off-piste) are still open …. A real shame as they could still have every slope open if they wanted such are the snow depths. You do feel on occasion that ‘skiing’ is incidental to this area’s wealth! Oh it's snowing again this morning ! Forecast wrong again !!

The area is really beginning to gear up for the summer. Since the weekend roadworks have sprung up everywhere …. You get the feeling that all the pisteurs have started digging up roads!

We won’t be here much longer at all .. A return to the UK will see to that ..Anyways, some photos from the last 4 days …

Fresh snow in Sannenmoser: -. Same day :
Missus-A allowing herself to be photographed – maybe because she’s wearing a new jacket for the first time?

From the Hornberg :-

Looking over towards Adelboden and Lenk: Looking down to Saanen ..why shut these slopes
Walkers on Glacier 3000 yesterday ..

Looking over the Valais ( under the cloud) towards my favourite mountain – the Matterhorn. I like this one !.. sorry. The Glacier’s own Clapham junction … in the middle of the photo is a Dad picking up his little child as she wouldn’t move .. poor kid.
…more Matterhorn …

Agenterre, Stunning photos. Looks superb, and your last week mirrors our experience in resort x. Simply the best weeks weather in the history of skiing. We were both priviliges bunnies.

Haut-Lac were back in force on the slopes today …. I know folks moan about ESF here, but whoever’s kids these are beware … we counted 13 with 1 instructor today !! The other group only had 9 …. That’s assuming these Brits are ski instructors of course !

I was one of the Haut Lac instructors last season and I would just like to say that I am a qualified ski instructor. Also, if there were 13 with one instructor then that is very unusual, group numbers normally averaged around the 8 mark.

You also seem to be confusing the Haut-Lac ski school with the Haut-Lac International schools which are separate entities. The ski school is a holiday camp that deals mainly with kids from the Uk and Ireland.

LaserStock, Hi .. welcome to snowHead , hope you enjoy it here, the more the merrier. A few other instructors around as you may have noticed!

I'll confess to being very confused by the 2 'Haut-Lac' schools. They may be seperate entities but are they not both owned or managed by Jean luc Dubler ? The same confusion exists around Gstaad , especially when it comes to competitions when it is the International school in the same colours with the same instructors?????

No issue that you are qualified .. what level may I ask, if not too rude? I would be very interested in knowing exactly what the qualification and experience standard of those folks escorting those kids around was .. perhaps you would like to advise all parents here for future reference, especially if my assertion that some were unqualified is incorrect. . I ski better than some of them ... and I am a poor skier.

You say yourself that 13 was unusual .. ( but true, as we counted the same group twice over a 20-minute period) and an average of 8 implies higher numbers on occasion.

Are you doing France this year ?... Enjoy

Hey, ive been with the Haut-Lac ski centre Im from Ireland. When I visited there was 8 in our group and there is to be 8 this time again. They also mentioned that they had to average at the most 10 per instructor I believe.

Im going to try and get out with some friends for a second time this year, I remember last time at the bottom of the Sannenmosser slope there was a hotel directly opposite the train tracks. This was at the very bottom of the slope not the Hornberg on over at the car-park.

I do believe it was called Horn something too, have you any info about the place im talking about?
