This was the view that I woke up to. It's 5 deg outside in the village (-4 at the glacier) and currently raining down here. However, the webcam shows almost nil visibility up there, and the DAL say only 4 cms of fresh snow, so it's a no contest about whether to go up - getting on with the bricolage is more important! Of course if they were showing 10-15 cms of fresh, that would be different.

considering it has been lashing down all night and the zero iso is at 2200 m that is not great. There has been 20cm over at Tignes.

easiski, If you fancy a mid day drink I'll be meeting Liam at the bottom of the Jardri at about 1pm on sunday!
LARGEZOOKEEPER, My son will be there that week on a kids week course, look out for him (although that might be quite hard as they all look the same with thier style!) He's about 5'8" dark brown curly hair, wearing black pants and grey hoodie, riding a next years bataleon board, will probably be hanging around with his mini mate who looks exactly the same only he is a skier! Speaks fluent french, sounds french till you hear him speak english! (so not fair!)

LARGEZOOKEEPER, snowangel., Sounds as though you'll both be around when I have my house warming party. I shall make sure to invite you. that's the week that Late Starte, Annie and Roger C will be around. Oh and not forgetting R32.

It's absolutely tipping it down today. Temp on my balcony is about 11 deg, so it's touch and go whether it's snowing or raining on the glacier.

At 06.30 this morning this is what I saw. Temp was/is 4 deg, so chilly, which is good. As long as it's sunny that's OK, but forecast is for more snow today. All good for incoming Snowheads.

dont we all. But last year we had october in august and august in october, then a very interesting winter.
lets hope this is not a foreboding to another interesting winter season.
incidentally it sounded like the mountain was falling down on sunday night, never heard such loud thunder (or long) or seen such bright lightening!

It was a really beautiful day today. Quite chilly first thing with blue skis. The snow was fab at 11.00 and when I skied down to the resto (had beginners) it was just about as perfect as it gets. I was skiing really slowly and doing lots of turns to make it last as long as possible.
I took a few pics, but am on a dial up for the moment (which seems to be very slow)m so I may not post them all, Here goes!
I haven't heard from Mickey who I think is here this week - shame!

It was a fabulous day today, clear blue skies and really quite warm. The downside is that there wasn't that much of a re-freeze last night (a dinky bit), so the snow softened up quite early. T Bar and his family started skiing today, so it was ideal. Signal is still running, although it's not certain how much longer for. However last year it closed in the first week of July, so we're doing quite well this year. The snowheads wall and the last bit of the glacier are showing the result of 3 very warm days though. On the whole it was magnificent though.
BTW it's been positively boiling down in the village this afternoon.

Roger C, it due to rain/snow thurs pm, which is typical as i'm going to take pici's on thrus morning, lets prey it stays nice in the morning. A few clouds are good, they add to what could be a boring photo, but too many would be pants!

easiski, Its Micky, not Mickey. I've always thought that American mouse was spelling it incorrectly.
Actually, in real life nobody calls me Micky, its Mike or Mick but they were both taken - I did toy with the idea of using Kate Price (ie Jordan) as my username but it might have generated the wrong sort of PMs. Yes, we were there last week, had a great time, kept an eye out but didn't see you or I would have said hello. We saw very little slush all week in stark contrast to the last 2 years. I ventured into the park on the last 2 days and did some of the small kickers, quite a buzz really (whoopee), not bad for 5 week skier I think (refining the carving can come later).

Ooh just one drawback, the bottom of the Signal was porridge, then again I should be grateful that it was open, the top half was fine.

micky, Sorry about the mis-spelling.
I was up today and it was cold and a bit foggy, but we had FRESHIES, and what's more were making tracks on the far side of Muretouse at 13.00.
Yesterday the wind was so strong we were evacuated from the glacier, but it was so bad and the wait was so long that I walked down to 2,600 with Late Starter and her family. Hard work, long walk, but the poor peeps in the cabins got stuck as the high wind knocked one off one of it's runners or rails or whatever (it works on 2 cables). I heard that the last peeps were evacuated (by harness and rope) at 19.30 at night. Thank goodness we weren't in it! , however I think another snowhead might have been. Ghastly. Today we went up and down the second section by the 8 man chair. Some of you will be familiar with that .....
Sorry no photos, as my software isn't sorted yet for my camera, so I can't download. Therefore ... not taking any. Hopefully will have that sorted tonight and if so will take photos tomorrow - hoping for a better day. Poor Late Starter: 3 rotten days in a row the first time she and her boys have tried summer skiing! Bah!

It was a lovely day yesterday and even better today. Warm, very little wind and wall to wall sunshine. We had good skiing on the Lauze early on which was quite hard, but little traffic and then on the Dome Sud. The snow softened around 11, but didn't become majorly slushy. The last bit down is getting quite dodgy now, but above the first crest of the Puy Salie it's fine. Proper summer skiing.

easiski,
Hi there,
There is a small group of us going over on sunday.
First time summer skiing.
Just wondering should we bring summer clothes for down in the resort or is it quite chilly.
Also, can you get a 6 day ski pass for less than 155 euro?
And do you know if the skiing will be good for the week this Sunday to the following Sunday.
Much appreciated
Hope to see you there
Brian

flexrip, Normally it's short/t-shirt weather during the day and a thin jumper maybe in the evenings. In the sun on a clear day it will be as hot as anything in the med as the sun is strong and the real temperature drops of altitude aren't really felt. Don't know about the current weather though. As far as skiings concerned - normal rules really - can be very pleasant spring-like or can be a cold as february on the glacier depending on your luck. Good windproofing is usually a good plan! Stick to layers and a backpack. Get up early as it's a long trip up and best conditions will be mid-morning... have fun.
