@Hurtle, la Plagne has been legendary for decades for bad lift queues so it is not not a one off. It is a dysfunctional resort. They brag about their 8 seater chairs then load them up with 1 person at peak periods.

While skiing at Whistler some years ago I came across a big queue at a chairlift and there was a shack next to it serving coffee. As the queue was in the order of 15 minutes I thought the following plan would be a good idea. On arrival you collected your deli ticket. You could then do what you want, like have a cup of coffee, until your number came up, at which point you could get on the lift.
This could be easily modifed with the current use of rfid lift passes:
On arrival at the lift you registered your pass at an arrivals gate and issued a number and a time when your lift would be leaving (this could even include the lift number)
When your number came up you get onto your designated seat and away you go.
If you don't get on or miss your slot then you have to re register and await your next time.
As the seats are allocated each lift will leave full so the wait times will be reduced, but of course the people not getting on will have to wait longer for their next slot. It will stop all this messing about where people are desperate to sit next to someone in particular or avoid sitting next to snowboarders

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

I've been to Les Arcs twice. Once in mid March and once in mid January. We did visits to La Plagne both times and come to think of it I don't remember any significant lift queues...........
These negative views concern me but the higher chance of untracked powder does appeal to though. Decisions.

Another area that is starting to struggle with the same problem because of over bed capacity is La Rosiere , a big complex including another huge club med was built , in return they got two great new lifts to access good advanced skiing that was definitely missing in the station’s portfolio . Only problem is it bought far too many punters to the popular easier skiing areas whilst the new advanced area remains quite quiet

My La Plagne trips have usually had big queues at Bellecote in the morning but otherwise fairly normal queuing.
My one Tignes trip was a PSB and clashed with a lot of university trips, there were several places where queues were not gigantic but fairly regularly 10 minutes or so, a bit longer at one of the funiculars.
Summary - both resorts have queues, as with most places you can usually avoid the worst of it with a bit of resort knowledge

@johnE I'm somewhat surprised that lift companies haven't cottoned on to the Theme Park 'Fast Pass' idea. Buy your lift pass and then supplement it by €30 a day for a VIP fast lane

@garfy1971, With due respect to @johnE, I thought his post read like an April fool.
For the vast majority of the time/lifts this would be a massive overkill.
There are already express lanes in Les Arcs - which is in itself a tad controversial with some but also doesn't always work that well and we already of instructor/learner lanes.

@garfy1971, Les Arcs has, sort of. If you buy an essentials pass then you get a priority queue at a number of strategic lifts, which in places saves you 5 minutes queuing. I buy an essentials season pass for this very purpose and it costs me a couple euros extra per day for the amount of time I'm there. I'm not sure what the extra price is for a 6 day pass but it is no where near 30€ per day. However, from late March onwards there are no queues anyway and the priority queues are abandoned.

And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

I think it is only Derby where it doesn't work well at other places such as Varet it is very very useful.
