Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

VERY SAD about Christmas ... BUT

I've been in a bubble of 2 since mid March. We have no siblings, both died, or children and mercifully our elderly parents are happily departed, the last in June 2019.
Last bar/resto was early October in France. 1 person in house since March to fit broadband. Haven't been in anyone other house since mid Feb in Lauterbrunnen. Only distanced neighbourly chats in street over glass of wine. We had a 14 day lock down weekend on return from France in mid Oct and have both had UCL/NHS research C19 tests - one antigen and one antibody. Both negative. Excursions to shops are just about weekly to stock up - we're not ones for aimlessly browsing the department stores in crowded centres and streets. Our winters in CH are essential to mental health and being in UK in Jan-March just fills me with horror. So we are planning/itching/desperate to go.

Page 4 of that amusing Singletrack thread includes:

‘ So, are we all heading over to Snowheads and liven up that thread that was either reposted or ‘copied’ as the generalist alleges?
I’m up for a good old fashioned inter forum troll.’

...and...

‘ Wouldn’t it be better to copy the OPs post onto Mumsnet?

NO. BAD EDDIE!!!!! Snigger.’

...and...

‘ We could always do both. Can we set mumsnet on that skiing forum? Basically bait mumsnet into posting in that thread and then sit back and watch the lols fly?
Break out the whisky and cigars boys, we’ve got a flame war to plan.’

Taking sad to whole ‘nother level. This is the best they could come up with? Laughing

@valais2, Don't let the petty jealousy get you down. Personally I'm burning vacation days which must be used by end of calendar year staring at rain out of the window or just getting wet when ordinarily I'd be skiing. Technically it may have been possible to go to CH and have a couple of weeks it didn't feel right to me either ( and not zero risk either).

Basically I gambled and lost on leave this year. Compared to what many have been through this year and will still go through it's a triviality so I can easily get thru with a bit of Red Bull TV ski movies etc

Thanks DOTM - yep burning those days is a common theme...it's both trivial in the face of what's happening and a shame at the same time. I am focussing on getting out on the singletrack - 5mm of verglas on the bike two weekends ago, getting quite hardened up....

russ e - I wasn't sure if 'Derek Smart' was an amusing fabrication and wordplay - then a quick search showed the bizarre nature of this world, to which you point:

from Wikipedia
...Computer Games Magazine wrote that "over time, his reputation as an online defender of his games and unabashed pistol-whipper of his enemies overshadows the games themselves".[9] A 2012 in-depth article regarding the disconnect between his real life and his online alter-ego was written by media veteran Russ Pitts and published by Polygon.[10]

I was particularly amused by this comment by Russ Pitts (no relation?)

"If I fed my dog a set of Scrabble tiles he could have crapped a better manual," Gamespot's Liam McDonald wrote. "There is too much going on in too many places, and none of it is well-crafted. A messy network of screens, pop-up boxes, and function keys make managing even the most rudimentary functions a chore. Nothing is smoothly integrated or intuitive."

@Hurtle, ...in social science they moved quickly from counting the number of citations of any paper to a system based on positive and negative citation. For obvious reasons; something terribly wrong could be citied more than something putatively right - I am not going to take any plaudits for number of views under these circumstances....any prize or accolade goes straight to Weathercam and the hounds....

Sorry for the delay. I was really intrigued by valais' initial post for the reasons stated and then intrigued by the general lack of insight from other snowheads about how weird it seemed.

I've often thought that SH and STW were very different in their values and perspectives and had been meaning to discuss it at various points. When this post came up I thought the easiest and cleanest way to find out what people thought was to just repost it verbatim.

As someone above said, many of the STW responses are comedy gold, and have really restored my faith in the perspective of the general population.

Credit for returning to the thread, your cunning disguise having been sussed.

Are you unaware of the big overlap, in that lots and lots of skiers/boarders are also mountain bikers and/or road cyclists?

Perhaps those same people have a switch on their head, that flicks between different values and perspectives, depending what mode of transport they’re on at the time?

A bit rich trolling for comments on a forum where a number of posters will have about a £10k bike quiver and a deluxe van or big SUV to carry them around in/on.

Suspect they'll hardly be downgrading to Halfords specials to free up cash to feed the starving kiddywinks because they are all salt of the earth types and sHs are stuck up poshos.
