Don't give up yet - Snowy week coming up!
Snow Forecast predicting a more than workable amount of snow over the coming days. It might not be straight forward though!
Best scenario for Beacons would be today's heavy rain turning to snow on the back edge with further accumulations from showers tomorrow.
Thursday precipitation should start as snow but rain then expected at all levels and freezing level of 1300m - hopefully it consolidates rather than all getting washed away! Possibly turns back to snow after dark.
Snow Forecast/Met Office currently predicting the best case scenario.. but small changes in timings and freezing levels could mean we have basically nothing for the weekend. Looks generally windy too, although probably more chance of some sunshine compared with the November cold spell

Yep a decent covering above 700m in the Beacons. Looks like there will be a freeze tonight before some more organised heavy snow tomorrow morning. Looks like it will turn to rain at all levels.. at least for a few hours in the afternoon before turning back to snow in the evening. Freezing levels will 'only' be at about 1300m so really hoping further gains in the morning and more drizzly precipitation allow some of that to cling on because next few days are looking snowy!
I was supposed to couple my Beacons checkup with some Christmas shopping today, but I got distracted. I may drive back via Beacons tomorrow afternoon to see how things are looking for the weekend.
Such optimism! Snowdonia North, Very light dusting of wet snow down to 900m ish on the Carneddau this morning, it's been steady rain all day + 8C at sea level all day, so easy to work out wet air lapse rate and cloud base circa 600m. Will see what tomorrow brings, there is only Monday or Tuesday worth thinking about after these fronts have been through, then its warming up again, but here hoping.

Saturday 14th December - Central Brecon Beacons
A last minute afternoon trip to the Central Beacons. Some nice snow above 700m, and looks set for some more over the next 24 hours!
Would definitely recommend swapping Sunday lunch for some sandwiches

I suspect the best conditions may have gone. There was some additional snowfall overnight into Sunday but the wind has completely stripped the slopes. Things were also getting quite wet underfoot. Freezing level probably around the tops, so ground above 800m was holding up OK. Didn't have to drop down much lower before the snow became non-existent.
Interestingly the hills to the north beyond Brecon were all covered.. and they're a lot lower. North Wales probably the best bet for Monday/Tuesday depending on how much they had in the previous days.
And love to help out and answer questions and of course, read each other's snow reports.

14th/15th December - Central Beacons
I arrived at Storey Arms around 1pm on Saturday. The sun was shining, and the temperature was around 4C in the carpark.. compared with a balmy 7C in Merthyr. The snow level looked quite high, and I suspected temperatures at the top would be above freezing with a fair amount of water skiing. I was wrong! The clear sky meant the temperature was rapidly decreasing with height and there was little sign of moisture above 700m. It looked like the best snow had accumulated in the bowl SE of Corn Du - so that's where most of the action took place. I first tried this slope in March but there wasn't quite enough snow to avoid it being a bumpy, thoroughly terrifying experience. This time there was a little bit more and the descent felt almost comfortable!
There was more snow forecast overnight, so I decided to come back the next day and see if it had improved. I arrived at the carpark to a temperature of 2C - very promising! Unfortunately conditions were rather humid so the temperature didn't seem to drop much with height and the freezing level was around the tops. Some new snow had fallen, however the wind had stripped the slopes bare and the sleet/drizzle was quickly destroying any gains! So I headed down from Pen y Fan towards Cwm Lwch and found some pockets of snow on the path to play with. The winds soon picked up and I was getting soaked, so made a hasty retreat to the carpark!
I suspect that might be the last action for 2019 - my first full year earning turns in Wales. I've managed 7 days so far this season (6 in the Beacons).. and 22 for the calendar year.
I've been doing some research on the new TechnoAlpine snow factories and I genuinely think if the climate wasn't so wet/windy, there's places in the Beacons that would work. Check out Alabama skiing - get far less natural snow than we do
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Well played boy.
Gutted I missed Saturday - Christmas party in Cardiff. Sunday looked a challenge.
7 days is a bloody good effort, as is 22 for the calendar year.
Fingers crossed for a late Christmas present.

Wednesday 18th December - Carneddau
Thought my season was going to start today, but no such luck. Forecast for the Carneddau was good, heavy snow last night and blue skies all morning. Neither happened.
Snow line is at 700m, so I thought there might be potential for a few hundred metres from the summit of Carnedd Dafydd down to Fynnon Lloer, but I reached the bwlch at Cwm Lloer and it was clear that the route wasn't in condition. Looking across Llyn Ogwen, it looked like there was a much better accumulation on the eastern side of Y Garn or Foel Goch. I didn't get the map out to check which one I was looking at, but if it was Y Garn then Banana Gully might be doable.

@huw_jenks, The web cam suggested Banana had some snow in it. Mostly gone this morning through

I looked at the map last night and it would have been Y Garn that had some decent looking accumulation. But as you say, it got much warmer by yesterday afternoon
Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

If it had been below freezing Wales would have gtound to a halt.
An outside chance of some snow on Thursday. Fingers crossed.. it's been a while

A dusting of snow possible for the higher parts of the Beacons tomorrow and a cold, sunny weekend.
'Unfortunately', I'll be up in Glencoe, but well up for a ski on the way back on Sunday if there's any left

Snowdonia 17th Jan,
Overnight/early morning 'wet' snow down to 450m on west/NW aspect on western mountains, ie those closest to the sea, But Moel Siabod and further south have nothing to talk about.
Yr Wyddfa, Elidir Fawr, Pen yr Ole Wen westerly/NW slopes have deeper snow cover than east through to south aspects ie Carneddau area, where there would be enough to ski but there is a bit of grass colour showing through, it would be possible to ski linked up drifts.
On Y Garn, there was localised eddying that has filled in Banana Gully ( winter grade I route) and cross loading in that cwm.
Snowdonia Forecast is for very light showers overnight from the W/NW, so there 'might' be some more snow cover on the lee slopes.
Have a fun safe weekend folks.
So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

Thanks Mark. Drove past the Beacons on the way up and there was a thin covering down to about 600m. Cold and bright tomorrow - probably enough for a few turns if anyone eager!
You know it makes sense.

The Berwyns have appear to have some cover. Nothing locally so I'd guess that the snowline is 500m +

28th January 2020 - Central Beacons
Dry January is over! Monday saw some frequent wintry showers over the Brecon Beacons and this continued today - some were pretty hefty! I arrived at 3pm not really knowing what to expect (as always). It looks as though the snow level yesterday was around 800m and that lowered overnight bringing snow showers down to around 500m. So what I found was things were beginning to fill in quite nice above the top of the Pont a Daf path, but quickly became an uncomfortable ride below this!
A few snow showers tonight and clear spells - possibly a hard frost. Hoping to get up early tomorrow and see if there's anything on.. before it all gets washed away in the afternoon
End of the road

Looks like some snow on Monday for Brecon- got Tuesday off so might head for speculative look at Pen-Y-Fan. Anyone else thinking similarly?
@Mouse555, how we looking for possible snow this week, any weather charts looking good

Maybe a light dusting tonight.. if we're lucky. Possibly something more substantial beginning of next week.. if we're lucky
8 days so far this season for me (missed a couple good opportunities). 17 last season. It's about the same, although this season was more front loaded with good days in November/December and a very poor January. Hopefully the next 3 months deliver!
Does look like another incredibly mild winter. Last couple years, I've seen snow below Storey Arms about 3 times
fair play to you, commitement to the long treks for a little snow play is brill. seen many of your tracks on my walks in the snow dustings. I on count down to the swiss alps for half term so snow is on way to me. but lets hope we get something half decent at the beacons soon..

30cm is possible for the Beacons next week. All depends on the freezing level and positioning of the lows. Windy though!

It's looking more and more promising. Met Office suggesting frequent, heavy precipitation/blizzards Monday to Thursday with freezing levels down to 400m Tuesday and Wednesday. Some of the models keep cool NWesterlies into next weekend and beyond but some seem more keen on something milder. Hopefully the snow falls quite low because looks windy most of next week.
Looks like torrential rain most of Sunday - hoping for some snow on the back edge up high.

Snowdonia: At the moment, Sunday 9th Feb, the forecast looks promising for Wednesday being the day to make a plan for, as the wind speed drops, forecasted rain and thaw cycle at all levels on Thursday and rain for Friday; But as well all know that is a long way off time wise, for a metoffice low confidence forecast!

Looks like the north got the best stuff today. The Storey Arms webcam has a light covering but was expecting a bit more.
Good news is it looks like snow should last until Friday with chance of a heavier fall on Wedneaday night
