I’ve just spent a pleasant 30 minutes re reading the thread, it really is well written.
@j b, I thought I read somewhere that they were replacing the long drag that you need to get coming back from cote2000 with a chair.

Obviously A snowHead isn't a real person

@Jonny996, there are plans, that is where I saw a sign about planning permission. But I haven’t heard anything about actual construction, maybe @Idris knows.

Well, the person's real but it's just a made up name, see?

@denfinella, as reading your expense report, I'm shocked to see car hire and ski hire. Is it because of 3 years ago or just because you have special tools to search?

They are, but not for this season. Delays are due to the town having to compulsary purchase (or its equivalent) land to put a lift pylon or aproach piste bridge on. One of the landowners (one of the origional Megeve Families) , thought it OK to extort 10's milions for land worth about 5K. Took 3 years in court. The 2 replacement lifts have their foundations built but will not be open for this winter.

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

@dkimble, sadly car hire (in particular) has massively increased since before the pandemic. Seems to be about triple the 2019 price now, if not more.
Check my signature for my Grenoble area trip report showing car / ski hire prices from January 2022 (hiring from Geneva). Though there has been yet another increase since then.

@Idris, thanks. We tried to spot any sign of construction in the summer (when work was proceeding on the Arbois lift replacement in StG) but couldn't see anything over in Cote 2000. It sounds as if it has started now at least.
Makes sense that there has to be a piste bridge as part of the project. I tried to work out on the IGN maps just where the new lifts were planned, and the flow in each direction wouldn't work without dealing with at least one of the streams off the ridge.
By the way, do you know if the St Gervais lift up from the station got final approval? We will be over anyway in a few days, so we will see if they have actually got started - the advertised schedule involved some work this autumn in order to be able to complete it in time for the 2023-24 season.
