But guess I cannot have everything and going out in a whiteout is not my idea of fun these days!

You must be getting old! Like the rest of us.
I have heard that the queues over half term are horrendous, which is one of the reasons I am not too bothered about not getting off work that month.

I always avoid Feb like the plague. But I don't think the queues last new year were that bad at all, certainly nothing like previous years I've seen.

The new building you can see on the vagere webcam is a small apartment block. Its the Villards end of 1800. Its being built on what were a few garages/stores at the end of the run of shops, next to Quicksilver but on a lower level. The hoarding mentioned 'luxury' but when I looked at the numbers and what you could see, they looked like your usual small apartments but I didnt check with the agent to get specific sizes, prices etc
Given the size of Edenarc and the numbers still on the market, plus the new building on the road up to edenarc, I didnt think 1800 needed any more. I thought the same about 1600 but thy now have a new club med so what do I know
It would be great if when they built more accommodation, they opened up some new piste as well

Very stormy still today, but not much new snow yet after the last heavy snow falls and not very pleasant below 2000m. Fingers crossed it get's colder tonight and turns everything white in the next 24hrs. I will try to update what's happening around the area shortly.
For those looking for useful links to help plan their holidays. You can now find most things you need on the first post of this seasons thread.

@wills_h, we certainly deserve it after the last three years! However, I'm not counting my chickens just yet. This is what Arc 1800 looked like on 10 November last year, and we know it was sub-optimal by Christmas!

Indeed, I was almost pleased to be injured and off skis! But the forecast for the next week or so looks much more hopeful than what happened last year, so fingers crossed we get decent conditions this December. I do hope so as my season starts in 17 days...

Seeing people mountain biking in January as the snow was so bad is not something I want to see again in a hurry

I firmly believe this is goiong to be a record breaking season. For the simple reason that I'm expecting my first little one in March and have been given strict instructions by the other half (who doesn't YET ski) that I'm only allowed 2 weeks this season instead of my usual 6 or more

I don’t want to worry you but after my first child was born it was another 20 years before I could afford to ski again. Just sayin...😉

This doesn't bother me. You sort of get used to VTT in the funicular from Bourg all year. I gather that some people are quite keen on it.
Mind you nothing compares to the chap I met cycling down the piste below 1600 on the snow - on a unicycle!

Now that is impressive, some might say foolish but I'm sticking with impressive. Does that count as rear wheel, front wheel or all wheel drive, and did the gendames insist on snow chains?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to impending fatherhood, lack of sleep and emptying of wallet, although lack of sleep and emptying of wallet could also apply to some of my ski trips in my younger years

@wills_h, All wheel drive of course. It was clearly an all terrain cycle - it all winter tyres on. I only saw him fall once and when he reached the road at La Grange, he turned onto it and set off down the road (in my opinion even more foolish since a fall on the snow would be relatively soft whereas being hit by a car going down the hill would hurt).

Terrible news:
David Poisson dead in downhill training. (Canada)
He was the star of Vallandry Valley - I fell so sorry for his family.
L'Ancolie will be a very sad place now.

Just got back on here after a few days away and it was as @Hyst, already mentioned very sad indeed to hear the news earlier in the week of the death of David Poisson. I am sure that many people who visit this thread will know that he was from Peisey Vallandry and will be dearly missed. Many of us have visited his families restaurant L'Ancolie in Nancroix. RIP.

Getting Eurostar over this year for 1st time, done every other way, why not try this...
Anyone able to recommend a taxi firm that we could use from Bourg up to Arc 2000 on a Saturday evening and then back on another Saturday, 1st dates are 6th and 13th Jan. Anyone an idea on price, can't see point in buying 2 funi tickets and dragging luggage around. Thanks

@thefatcontroller, I've lost so many cards from the guys we've used to get to 1950... rarely get the same one twice (There was one who was the brother of the BSM chief of police, and was able to get past a heavy jam using his phone and 'insider knowledge' - driving on the wrong side of the road past all the stationary traffic because he knew the road ahead was closed so no traffic coming down. Shouda kept HIS card!)
But I know we've successfully used aarthur in the past, http://www.taxibourgsaintmaurice.com/ they seem to be quoting €68 each way which for 28km seems reasonable.
Would agree it is sensible to book ahead: they disappear quite quickly from the station car park when the Eurostars disgorge.
