Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

I'd have thought Lech and Sauze werewere diametrically opposite in terms of value for money and atmosphere.

+1. More of an Italian parallel for Lech would be somewhere like Courmayeur imo

@NewSki, others will have more up to date information but while I enjoyed 3 holidays in cervinia I can only remember 1 good restaurant. I'd have thought Lech and Sauze werewere diametrically opposite in terms of value for money and atmosphere.

Although if the restaurant in Cervinia is the one I'm thinking of, certain newspapers will tell you it serves the best food in the Alps - of course they've tried all of them!

The ski area in Cervinia is very beginner/intermediate friendly.

@porkpiefox, My thoughts - maybe more should go for a gourmet week some place warm, and a trip or 2 to a local fridge maybe? Laughing

I've personally never had poor food when away (apart from Cervinia late 80's where food was really bad), generally good restaurants are not hard to find in my experience. We generally go where the locals eat, they know stuff.....

@Markymark29, There's clearly a market out there for this, I think you could be onto something Laughing

Go somewhere with a good range of interesting restaurants. Eating in the same place every evening is unimaginative.

So if you're just off somewhere snowy come back and post a snow report of your own and we'll all love you very much

@NewSki, no, there isn't just 1 good place to eat in Cervinia. There are many, but there is 1 in particularly which is very well known (Chalet Etoile). The truth is as @Markymark29 suggests, skiers seem to like their food, because in general the quality of food in most ski resorts is very good even where the food is fairly simple.

The only place I've been to and thought the food in general on the mountain was poor was in Grandvalira in Andorra, but even then we had a good week skiing so didn't mind too much.

Of course there is only one. Italians know nothing about food and ussualy they eat dog food ... If you like good food, avoid Italy by all means.

If you're looking at Austria then in no particular order I'd suggest Mayrhofen, Zell am See, Westendorf, Kirchberg/Kitzbuhel. If you're going in January then the chances of having good snow cover are high, but if you should be unlucky then the first two resorts have the advantage of nearby guaranteed glacier skiing (at Hintertux for Mayrhofen and Kaprun for Zell am See).

You can certainly eat quite well in Sauze but agree that Lech is an entirely different kettle of fish.

If food is the defining feature of this trip (apart fro the skiing) and you are torn between Austria and Italy I would suggest Alta Badia. Great cruising skiing and a swathe of restaurants competing in the fine dining stakes.

Maybe stay in Selva for quiet night life?
