Mail for help.Help!!

Log in to snowHeads to make it MUCH better! Registration's totally free, of course, and makes snowHeads easier to use and to understand, gives better searching, filtering etc. as well as access to 'members only' forums, discounts and deals that U don't even know exist as a 'guest' user. (btw. 50,000+ snowHeads already know all this, making snowHeads the biggest, most active community of snow-heads in the UK, so you'll be in good company)..... When you register, you get our free weekly(-ish) snow report by email. It's rather good and not made up by tourist offices (or people that love the tourist office and want to marry it either)... We don't share your email address with anyone and we never send out any of those cheesy 'message from our partners' emails either. Anyway, snowHeads really is MUCH better when you're logged in - not least because you get to post your own messages complaining about things that annoy you like perhaps this banner which, incidentally, disappears when you log in :-)

boredsurfin, she lived in Bourg d'Oisans, and was working in Serre Che, Alpe D'Huez and possibly Montgenevre I think. I don't think she was cooking at 3000m . Oh and Les Deux-Alpes of course.

Hells Bells, - in the interests of science I think you should also try your steamed pudding in a pressure cooker!

Anyway, snowHeads is much more fun if you do.

I think the main problem with English tea at altitude is down to the fact you can't get the water to near 100 degrees. So it doesn't steep the same way as tea at or near sea level.

Steam however is steam whether at 0m or 3000m so the yorkies should still rise.

8 eggs
220g of plain white flour
600ml of milk
Salt
Pepper
Smoking hot fat in a tin
Hot oven at about 200-220 for 35-45mins

Snow and Sunshine, I'm perfectly happy to use a pressure cooker, in fact I had mine out last night as I had forgotten to put the shin of beef in the slow cooker, and wanted to eat before midnight. I always make my Christmas pudding in it, as well as stock from bones, and broth. Yorkshire tea bags are the only ones we've found that makes decent tea at altitude, even in Val Thorens. It isn't as strong as at 80m above sea level though I do find making it in a pot helps.

It depends what you want from it Scott. If you want to make enough money to make ends meet then you’ll need more than one property, in a convenient location, or a small hotel. Running something of that size will be long hours and a 7 day a week job (during the season), that does suit some people but it is a pretty full-on job.

tmp28, search out a user called 'araird', not sure what their business is, but they write a blog about the Bourg SM area which has included a reasonable amount of posts about local politics and development. They might be able to help.

He moved to Valmorel a few years ago and was running a hotel / chalet outside the main resort. I stayed there a couple of times - once just before Covid, and once just before Christmas last year. So he was still active this season; though Covid followed by a poor season may have been enough for him. It's a shame if he has packed up as the chalet was great, he's a really nice and accommodating guy; and Valmorel is a great ski area.

He's still registered for tax; couldn't find any other information.

He lives year round in France - his family base is Burgundy somewhere. I hope he will be running the chalet next season, as we were hoping to go back...
