A beautiful day, good snow, not busy

Another beautiful day, pistes in great shape across all three valleys. Courchevel was especially quiet today. Val Thorens a little busier, but many people watching the ice driving (Olivier Panis driving today). Off-piste crunchier and heavier than yesterday, on-piste chalky in many places, and mostly deserted - wonderful

Courchevel was lovely today, with a couple of laps around Creux in absolutely perfect piste conditions. As you can see, it wasn't exactly busy!
Generally everyone having a very lovely time |
Good to see there's a couple of non-helmet wearers in that shot...
Sorry to hear about Mr. C - send him my regards

bertie bassett, will do. He flew home today, and hopefully will be skiing later this season. Very disappointing for him, and for me as I was looking forward to helping him work on his skiing this week.

Firm but grippy on the pistes in Courchevel today, and super-quiet still. Not lots open yet, but enough to keep everyone happy. Could get a bit firm if it doesn't snow before the hordes arrive but hey, its early days yet.
The scenery is still OK though:
Oh and for anyone driving up to resort, yes, the pavements and wooden barriers have been breeding again over summer, still a few free spots left to park for the early birds though.

Excellent piste conditions around Courchevel 1850 still, with the unbroken sunshine of the least couple of weeks helping with the early season tan. Spent yesterday working on carved long radius turns, so plenty of laps doing movement and balance drills at speed and generally very quiet pistes.
More photos from this week around the Trois Vallees on Facebook.

HoneyBunny - if you see a forty-something in a NY Taxi yellow North Face jacket, black trousers and a backpack (could be skiing or boarding) then say hello! If I don't reply then it isn't me
Have a good trip.
Cheers,

Enjoying a beer at the bar in Courchevel. Very cold in resort, pistes look in decent nick from what I could see.
Can't wait for tomorrow! Ouch at the lift pass price though....! €257!

My Father in Law was complaining at 18 euros for a weeks ski pass at val thorens. I told him he shouldn't have bothered with the assurance.

Firm, sunny and too much red on the board is the exec summary. Somewhat surprised at number of closed lifts, most of 1650 is shut apart from ariondaz and the lift above it. 1850 had more open, and the pistes up high were firm grippy snd quite good fun. Runs to the bou blanc were generally rubbish and only folyeres open below. Bou blanc needs better marking down to it, and the bridge at top of folyeres is gone.
Vt tomorrow I think

Just out of interest HoneyBunny...how did you get the €257 lift pass cost ? We are going out there in January & I can't see where you have got that 6 day 3V lift pass price from.....am I missing a trick somewhere ?

Ricay, that's the price charged through Mark Warner. Slightly discounted this week as it's low season. Still expensive though!

J9 & HonneyBunny Ahhh, now I see that €257 includes the "hands free card" charge of €3.... we picked up the discount voucher at the Earls Court ski show, so our 6 day pass should cost €217 & I still got my hand free card from last season

Been a great week in Val Thorens. Some of the pistes got a little bit icy late on but overall they are in great condition. No lift queues, although a few thousand students dotted about.
The run into Orelle was great but a bit disappointing not to be able to go on the new lift there.
